HERE WE GO AGAIN!

Here we go again!

It’s that time of year again, and after a long layoff, another Cosmo season is upon us!  With pre-season done and dusted for the majority of the league, there will no doubt be another exciting year ahead. The Cosmo appears to strengthen it’s brand year on year, with matches being as competitive as we’ve ever seen, week in, week out. A good opportunity for most of the league, tonight & Saturday to put a marker down and show their intent.

Lions roar to victory in the Windmill cup

Last weekend in blistering heat, saw the brilliantly organised Windmill Cup, and unofficial curtain raiser to the new Cosmo Season. A fantastic day of very competitive football, with strong representation from all clubs. Picking up from where they left off last season, and in fine form, saw Gaelic Lions beating FC Nippon in a well fought cup final, with a golden goal winner late into extra time.

The Plate final was tightly contested between TGA Rangers and Casuals FC, with TGA coming out eventual winners via a tense penalty shoot-out. The highlight, Mike Sharples missing his penalty, much to the joy of the crowd, with shouts of "That won't be going on instagram or facebook will it!?"

Finally, congratulations to the Vikings, whom were victorious in collecting the 35’s and over cup. A massive thanks to the Dutch Club, whom were wonderful hosts, providing endless amounts of beer, pizza and entertainment!

Cosmo Committee News

There have been a few changes with regards to the Committee this season, with Graham Dickson taking over the reins from Michael ‘MJ’ Jorgensen as League President. Big shoes to fill, however, Graham is more than up for the challenge.

A few words from Graham and fetching pic above...

“Just a quick note to say I am honoured to be the Cosmo League President and will do my best to continue the traditions of this excellent league.  I have been associated with Football in Asia since 1980 and played for the Seoul British Club (1981-4), Yokohama Country and Athletic Club (1985-93), HKFC (1985 and 1993) and SCC from 1994 to present with the SCC Pads who funnily enough played in the Cosmo League in the 1980’s.  I have been playing football since my early days in North East England and then in Bermuda and after University at Kempton Park, Transvaal,  South Africa.   I’m a fanatical Chelsea supporter and am married with two daughters.  I now reside permanently in Singapore and have worked for Citibank for more than 40 years and enjoy my Regional responsibilities.

I have been associated with SCC Firsts (organizationally) since 2001 and realize I need to be totally impartial in this new important position, and I commit this will be the case.   I am approachable at any time, and my cell is 96882870 and office 6657 3633, my admin is called Kelly who has my schedule and can reach me.

Enjoy the season and I wanted to personally thank Michael, Tony, Mark S, and Brad for the outstanding work they have done over the years as without them we have no league.  Fantastic that all four of them are staying on the Committee and we are joined by Jonathan Cloak and Take.  Darren Wareing has agreed to help the Committee, and I plan to ask Mark Addy for his support this season. We will appoint them ex-officio and get them ready for the future.

We are also going to ask Remy to take us all digital and remove as much paperwork as possible, especially match team sheets. More on this later.”

Have a great season ahead, and let’s have mutual respect for all our respective teams and referees/linesmen.  Do also remember we all have to go to work on Monday’s, and it is only a game at the end of the day.  Stay competitive, but play fair.”
