Up for the cup next week!

Hotspurs lined up Saturday with a full squad optimistic of picking up a result. The game started in dogged fashion, both sides struggling to maintain possession for long spells and no real clean chances for either side to break the deadlock. The first chance fell from a dubious corner which had been cleared before going out of play. Header dispatched, 0-1 Aioli. Shortly after, good play by AIoli and after a fantastic save from fill in keeper Des, the rebound was scored, 0-2. Just before half time Aioli picked up their third which was clearly offside for all but the linesman to see. Hotspurs went in down at the break which was not a fair representation of the half given the effort and spells of good play. The second half was non eventful and the game petered out with no real chances for both sides. Good luck to Aioli and get well soon to their Centre Half who was taken off early in the game.

3 Points

Aioli Monkeys returned to Cosmo action after a week off, picking up a much needed 3 points against Hotspurs. With both teams more intent on passing the ball to the opposition in the first 10 mins you could have been forgiven for thinking that the purple of the Monkeys and the royal blue of Hotspurs were a little bit too similar. It was just about manageable and once our eyes adjusted, we created our first real chance. JJ found himself one on one with Des, delicately dinked it over his head and...well I’m not really sure what happened after that as I was busy celebrating the inevitable goal, but it somehow remained 0-0. It didn’t take long for JJ to put things right, his near post corner nodded in by Joe to actually make it 1-0 this time. We bagged another shortly after, Joe on the scoresheet again with a clinical finish in to the bottom corner following some trademark Monkeys dilly-dallying in the opposition’s 18 yard box. We made it 3 on the stroke of half time when JJ got in again and this time finished clinically. Phew. Good half all round, despite being pretty sloppy at times. Hotspurs never gave up and created a few half chances in the second half, but the centre back pairing of Harry and Anton held firm. We made a bit of a hash of several good openings and it ended up 3-0. MOM for us would probably have been Matty, but he didn’t come for a beer so got no votes in the pub after. Wrighty got it instead for his brace. MOM for Hotspurs was JD. Cheers to Hotspurs for a fair game and Urs for doing a good job in the middle.
