GSAS earned first point of the season with a draw against Hibs

GSAS started brightly and controlled the game in the first 20 minutes well. Hibs only threatened with long balls behind our defense. During one of the attacks the ball broke down for Nico to have a go and he scored with the help of some deflection. At that point GSAS decided to sit back and hit Hibs on the counter. It worked perfectly to create one half chance and another clear chance to score but there was no finishing touch. Second half started with more of the same, Hibs dominating the possesion and having a go at Joe's goal from distance. Joe was on his game and saved all the difficult shots. GSAS meanwhile trying to hit on the break. GSAS defense stood strong until a dangerous cross came from the left, which pipo unfortunately sliced in into his own net. GSAS came alive and created few more chances but they all went begging. The energy levels have dropped significantly in the second half and it is something to work on for GSAS players.

Opening Day Draw

Hibs got the least they deserved from this opening fixture against GSAS as it finished 1-1. There was the usual rustiness in the blistering heat to start with but then GSAS took the lead with a soft, slightly deflected goal from distance after an even start. GSAS then set out to sit back for the remainder of the game and challenge Hibs to break them down. Hibs found the home keeper in fine form and he was their best player on the day. Julio forced a stunning save and Panda and Thorin also tested him. Hibs remained patient and felt they should have had a penalty for handball for a goal bound shot but lost Panda to injury and GSAS had one counter that nearly doubled the lead just before the half. Hibs began the second half very brightly and created a lot of openings. Boycey was bombing forward and nearly scored twice and set up two more promising situations. Thorin went close and worked the keeper who was up to everything Hibs threw his way and it was one way traffic with Johan bossing the midfield. Thorin was tripped for what seemed a certain penalty but Alex was having none of it. The subs were impacting the game positively with Lippy, Buffy and Maayan all adding attacking threat. Lippy created the goal when his dangerous CROSS deflected in for the equaliser. Hibs sensed the winner and gave it a good go, but GSAS woke up a little and started to show more intent. They had a goal ruled out for deliberate handball and Vish dealt well with the corners and it finished all square. It’s good to be back.
