A stunning strike by Jahan Rezai sealed a 3-2 comeback win for SCC firsts after they found themselves trailing by 2 goals early in the second half. SCC had a decent first half and created a few good chances but failed to make the most of them or were thwarted by their ‘keeper. Latini started the second half brightly and scored 2 quick goals to put themselves in the driving seat. SCC upped their intensity and made use of the quality on the bench to claw their way back into the game. First to reply was Dom O’Shea who was in the right place at the right time after the keeper saved a shot and follow up from Andrew Hutcheon. Hutcheon got one for himself shortly after with a trademark strike into the bottom corner having been put clean through by a tidy ball from Kimi-San in midfield. Then Jahan Rezai stepped up to win the game. Playing at left back he popped up to pick up a loose ball in the inside right channel, he dribbled past one, dropped a shoulder to create some space and unleashed a right foot rocket into the top corner to send the crowd into raptures. It was Rezai at his best and a pleasure to watch. A fitting goal to win a memorable encounter. We thank the Latini for a competitive and well contested game and wish them the best for the remainder of the season. Thanks to the match officials for accuracy in decision making, playing the advantage appropriately and allowing an open game to take place. Thanks also to Brewerkz in Riverside Point for showing the Cardiff City v Full-Ham game on the big screen telly. SCC MOTM - Matt Hulen for an all round display brimming with energy, skill and exuberance. SCC TOTD - The Caretaker Manager for a litany of misdemeanors Latini MOTM - Dazza for a strong and battling performance against our strikers.

Dempsey Despair

School holidays, Youth Football Tournaments, Late injuries and a 13,000 mile round trip to Molineux were some of the issues facing 1TM Latini this Saturday in a 1st v 3rd clash at Dempsey. This is why Tally gets paid the big bucks and the wheeler dealer worked tirelessly in the week to assemble a 17 man squad to take on the defending champs in their own backyard. Big welcome backs to Seany H, Scoop and KK who were all thrown straight into the starting 11, new signings Tak and Hugo taking their place on the bench. The 1st half was really just the warm up act for what was to be a humdinger of a 2nd half. It was a pretty tentative affair all-round with SCC edging it slightly with young Sean H in sticks making a couple of great saves, notably a point blank reflex stop from a hutch header. HT 0-0. 1TM Latini came out the traps 2nd half like a new team and took the game to SCC. We finally got playing some football and it paid dividends with 2 goals in quick succession in the opening 10 mins of the half. Scoop found Duplo out in some space on the left and after cutting back inside Duplo dispatched for a 1 nil lead. Provider for the 1st, Scoop then turned finisher. After a lovely ball from JK, the big man bullied the SCC defence and calmly slotted us into a 2-0 lead. With SCC in disarray, shouting and arguing amongst themselves, 1TM Latini carried on with some nice possession football, controlling the play, game over surely…… ? Unfortunately there were still 30 mins on the clock and this is cosmo football...... SCC out of nowhere pulled 1 back. After an initial good save from Seany, a 6 yard box scramble of legs, arms, studs and highland yelps the ball somehow squirmed fortunately to an SSC player who rolled her home. 1-2. Hutch then leveled shortly after with a very clinical finish off the inside of the far post. Both teams then made about 10 substitutions and it was SCC who were on top. We steadied the ship a little but in the end it was a high quality goal which won a high quality game. Jahan swung for the fences with a left foot ripper which rocketed in the top bin from 20 yards…. Heartbreak. FT 2-3. A tough result to take, but the performance bodes well for the rest of the season. Congratulations to SCC who again showed they are the team to beat this season. The high octane game will surely be 1st up on match of day. Thanks to Team Pep and Codhead for coming down to support. Up for the cup next week vs Pub House.
