Another episode of FNLs brought Rangers up against our tricky opponent from Scandinavia. Albeit our results recently against the Vikings have been fairly positive in recent games we knew this was another massive potential to drop points, but also on the other hand a chance to bounce back from the disappointing defeat against le French le week before. Which way would this go hmmmmmm. A customary local monsoon downpour after work meant the pitch had a splendid amount of water on it setting the game up nicely for some good football on a greasy surface. Tasty. Rangers started pretty well trying to put pressure on their opponents and knocking the ball around noicely, Stevie obviously didn't fancy this game so decided to play for Vikings instead (tried to convince the gaffer to let him go to Nippon in the summer but they wanted money from us for the move so didn't quite work out with GST and service charge not included). We got the lead midway through the first half with Padtrick finishing well to put us one up. Obviously that was far too easy by now so, in the spirit of Deepavali, we gave a goal back to make it even stevens. Fortunately, we responded almost immediately with Nate popping in a header from assist king DD#10s corner. A couple more golden chances wasted/miraculously cleared off the line meant it was 2-1 at half time. With the game in the balance our start to the second half was tres important. We managed to punish a poor clearance with Nate striking the ball as cleanly as you like from a mighty 10 yards to trickle past the hypnotised keeper. From then on Rangers were well on top and could/should/definitley should have scored more, limiting their opponents to just a few attempts. FT: 3-1. MOM for Vikings: Jesper, looked dangerous when he had the ball running at defenders. MOM for Rangers: Nate, give gingers a chance. Next up......the in-form team of the league.....FNL. Excited much.

Though loss, but fair

Yet another Friday night lights game!!! Usual our favorite time to play, as they support on the sideline is strong and the beers will be flowing after the game and we have Saturday off:-) However for the second Friday night game this season our squad were looking a bit thin compared to our normal squad. Looks like the the university was a hosting a study trip as most of our youngsters were travelling. All that a side, we managed to have a strong 11 as well as a strong bench. The Vikings started a bit shaky and Rangers managed to have most possession and was good at playing it around us. 2 new faces in the back 4 complicated the communication a little and the Vikings needed some time to get settle, but before they managed that the Rangers put a long ball up and after a little push in the back of The Hair (free kick???) for him to miss the ball it landed at the feet of a Ranger and he put in the back of the net, Rangers up with 1. Not long after the Vikings managed to equalize, it was a bit messy, but Parwez (only one who didn't go for the study trip, good commitment) was ready at the back post when the ball appeared in front of this head, 1-1. Rangers continue to have most possesion in the first half and at the end they had a corner and Vikings forgot to follow their man and at the back post Rangers had a man wide open and had no trouble putting it in. Vikings went into the break a bit frustrated. But came out agreeing to fight for every ball. Second half looked a lot better for the Vikings, playing the ball better around, however not getting that many chances mainly shots from the distance. Another corner for Rangers and the Hair failing to clear the ball let to another Rangers goal, excellent execution! 3-1. Shortly after the Viking changed the line up and tried to with an extra striker, but little did it help. Not much to say for the remainder of the half. Congrats to Rangers on the win, they were the better team on the day. Big shout out to the Vikings that stepped up in the game! Vikings MOM went to Hotan and Jesper both with a very good effort. Rangers MOM, number 9 who was causing problems for the defense throughout the game.
