10 minutes of madness

Another great rotation compared to last week, but a solid line-up nonetheless. After a shaky few minutes the Swiss got into the game and on 10 minutes Cyrill let fly from 20 meters and the ball ended up in the roof of the net. A beauty! Both teams then had chances, first Dominik could have doubled the lead before the St Andrews number 9 let fly from a good 20 meters to surprise Lucas in goal. Both teams had chances to take the lead before the well deserved break. The heat was once again in full force....we look forward to next week when we will get our first 5 pm kick off the season. Sebastian then gave the Swiss the lead within 2 minutes of coming on. He persevered in the box and rolled the ball into the right hand corner. At this point, it looked like the Swiss were in control, and the first win of the season was a real possibility. Until, yes, until we had a 10 minute spell which ruined pretty much everything. The equalizer was a bit controversial, as the Swiss defenders were very sure that the St Andrews striker came back from an offside position. But the next three goals within 10 minutes were hard to take: first a clean own goal (miscommunication), then some sloppy defending, and finally a sloppy back pass to make it suddenly 2:5. St. Andrews could hardly believe their eyes (and luck).... The waterbreak allowed the Swiss to regroup, and the last 20 minutes saw a good reaction. Dominik pulled a goal back and Marc and Urs had further chances to set up a nail-biting final few minutes. But luck was not on our side and so we will be entering the Plate competition. With more absences and injuries we will have to dig deep next week when we go to Dempsey to play in-form SCC. But for as long as the youngsters keep their positive attitude we will learn from this and get stronger. Congratulations to St. Andrews for a clean game. Good luck in the Cup competition.
