Back to winning ways

After a run of 5 consecutive defeats that has left Coach Price facing some tough questions from the legions of loyal fans, this was a most welcome 3 points. A winless run stretching back to February (when we were still relatively good) finally came crashing to an end in style as Swiss were the unfortunate victims. On a large pitch Latini used the size to their advantage with Duplo a constant threat in behind the Swiss defence. Most of the damage was done here, as he terrorised the Swiss defence time and time again. He scored 2, and was involved in countless others and was a deserved MOTM. Special mention to Khy and Medium Mills for their respective braces too. Well taken goals by the Polar Bear and Volleyball on his debut capped off an excellent performance. NO fire in the belly

Both teams went with depleted sides into this game. The conditions at Dempsey were great, the weather perfect, so all ingredients for a good contest. But the Swiss forgot to show up. We never looked like we came to put in a real fight. While our build up and passing in the first half was neat, the difference among the teams was in the last 30 metres: Latini muscled through the Swiss back-line and clinically took their chances to race to a 4:0 half time lead. From open play the teams looked about the same, but we could not create a lot of chances, Hamza was isolated upfront. At the other end, Latini were too often in 3 against 2 or 2 against 1 situations and the outcome was usually that the ball ended up in the back of the net. Not much to say at half time, except that we wanted to win the second half. But that never materialized as Latini scored first to extend their lead to 6:0 by the 60th minute. Urs then put his name on the score sheet to reduce the deficit, and in the process keeping his scoring streak alive: he has scored in 31 consecutive Cosmo League seasons. Latini then scored two more easy goals for a totally deserved win. For the Swiss, the story remains the same: let the season come to an end, let’s regroup and prepare the next campaign. It can’t possibly get worse than this year, or can it? Referee did a good job, got all big decisions right. Thanks Latini for the game, we plan to give you a tougher challenge next time out.
