Won't anyone think of the children?!

There's a couple of green dots beneath the Lions logo on the super soaraway Cosmo website this morning and those green lights signify something very strange, something unusual - that's right - the Gaelic Lions winning a couple of football matches. It's amazing what you can do when you have some players available and you don't have to start fat geriatrics at left-mid anymore! Hah hah! So cool. Saturday was always gonna be a tough game against a German team who have been flying this season so far. We knew what to expect and so it came to pass when 12 moustached leather-clad men rocked up with bags of sausages and an intact membership status in the still trendy European Union and they looked ready for a battle. The ghettoblasters were on full whack as the Scorpions powered through Winds of Change on repeat and the winds of change did indeed blow hard through Turf City as the Lions blasted through the first 20 minutes with some blistering football. The Lions had the luxury of having 16 players and the All-Stars only had one sub which was a bummer and we understand this was not the Germans at full strength by any means and when that one sub was used after 20 minutes it was always gonna be a long afternoon for the inventors of the ring binder, notably and more topically, the Christmas tree AND advent calendars! Go on the Christmas vibe! Yeh! Conor McHugh banged two in, one was a particularly generous assist from Pistol Pete O'Brien, who then bagged one himself before Rhino nabbed his second header in consecutive weeks the little scamp. 4-0 at the break but that was not the whole story. Some lapses of concentration saw the Germans in behind several times in the first half and we had to rely on Anders to keep us in it on four separate occasions. There is definitely a lesson to be learned here folks, be kind to the elderly this Christmas, visit them and ask them do they need anything in the shops, ye know - shit like that. So with a depleted squad and the sweat from their endeavours weighing heavily in their sodden walruses the Germans only went and bloody dug deep second half and kept the score at 4-0. Mass irritation but the points were in the bag so we may as well not dwell on such matters and get stuck in to the 60 cans we had at the start of the game and the 33 we had at the end. Christmas party ahoy and it was time to get off with unsuspecting women in Harry's to the soundtrack of Last Christmas. So all that is left for me to say is Frohe Weihnachten to our industrious pals and see you in the new year for round two. MOM for the Germans was Oscar the Colombian drug lord and for the Lions Anders for keeping us in it when we needed him most. Gesegnete Weihnachten und ein glückliches neues Jahr!

Finaly X-Mas...

The match day was already not in the best light for GAS, xmas season with many players traveling and multiple injuries only left a squad of 12 players. This number is not sufficient for Cosmoleague, besides the fact that we were able to field a quality team. After the first couple of minutes the aim of the lions was very clear to overrun the Germans with the superior willpower and physical present on the pitch. It was not to long into the game that the Lions managed to take the lead with after a corner kick, and shortly after increased the score line with a long ball behind the defense followed by a solo. The Germans had their first substitution after 20 minutes due to a injury and had to complete the remaining time with no substitutions left. The lions managed 2 more goals in the first half leading 4:0, the second half displayed a better organized German game play and therefore the end result remained the same. Thanks to the Lions for a hart but very fair game, and for some of your beers after the match. MoM goes to their number 14, for his physical presents and marathon like performance. MoM for the Germans to Victor, in his first Cosmo game with a solid defense, calm and skillful with the ball. The Brightside for the Germans was the xmas party in the evening, thanks for the beers, wein and schnapps.
