Back to winning ways...
After two narrow defeats against Vikings and SCC the Swiss finally found the way back to a win. The Lions looked a very different side from last season, but they gave us a good game.

Both teams played attacking football and it was no surprise that this should end up (yet again) in a high scoring game. The Lions took the lead when their striker hit a superb shot into the roof of the net, no chance for Bill ("neutral' observers suggested that it was scored from an offside position). But the Swiss reaction was excellent: Captain Heinz Steinegger, who played in the centre of defense, unleashed a shot from a good 20 metres which left the otherwise good Lions keeper no chance. Shortly afterwards Thomas Franz followed up on a throw in and weaved his way through a few Lions defenders. His shot arched high in the air and Thomas Kaegi put the ball over the line " a la Uwe Seeler in 1970" (I guess that gives away my age...). Within five minutes the Swiss had turned around the game and Christian Schulthess increased the lead when he superbly finished off Francis' through ball for a 3:1 Swiss lead. Lions then shuffled their line up and the new striker was soon on the scoresheet. His pace was too much for the Swiss defenders and he rounded Bill to score. Whether I finally put the ball over the line is irrelevant, the ball was on the way into the net - hence it should count as a goal and not an own goal. 3:2 Swiss at the break.

After the break, more of the same: both teams looking to attack. A Lions equalizer was ruled out because of an  offside position. Francis then had only the goalline to beat but somehow he could not connect with the ball...Finally, the Swiss got the breakthrough: a Francis Anthony corner found the boot of the author (48) who volleyed into the net, just finding enough space between the goalpost and Glen Barter (46). That should have been it, but the Lions pulled one back (Jamie Roberts it had to be....:-) with 8 minutes to go. A couple of tense moments but the Swiss hung on to collect 3 points.

Overall, probably just about deserved for Swiss to get full points. From the moment we had our noses in front we looked the more likely side to win. But credit to Lions for a good and fair game.
