2 Points Dropped

2 points dropped by the Brewerkz, who just failed to show the required commitment or passion to grind out a result against a well organized Lions side on a poor pitch. The Lions played with great shape all game, thanks largely to their two decent players in the middle of the park and a well marshaled defense.

The first half was fairly even with the Lions coming out on top, despite creating very few chances. The goal, to be fair to our keeper, must have been lost deep in the Sun, as it appeared to slip straight through his hands.  For the rest of the game , our keeper didn’t get the chance to make amends as the Lions struggled to create any more decent chances.

n

The second half was much improved, the Brewerkz attacking most of the half, without ever really playing that well. We scored one quality goal and probably would have just deserved a 2-1 win, but it was not meant to be.

Always a pleasure to play the Lions, who are competitive and play the game in the right spirit. I am sure with the quality the Lions had, in particular in the midfield, they will go on to have a good season.

Of note, the referee seemed more interested in arguing (and swearing) with our players than managing the game, thankfully this didn’t have a material impact on the result of the game (but certainly did on its flow). I am acutely aware that for this particular scribe, the following statement is the pot calling the kettle black, but it’s been awhile since I saw a referee swear on two separate occasions towards a player. Lastly, thanks to Kelso for the studs up challenge towards the end of the game, after being injured for a month, it always feels good to come though a bad challenge unscathed.
