Overall this was a great game from the Latini Warriors, a very solid performance on all parts of the pitch resulting in a deserved victory. Having said that the Swiss team had their moments in particular in the first 10-15min of the second half when they looked like they would mount a comeback. Apart from that I think it is fair to say Latini were in control.
nWe started the game a little slow and the Swiss had slightly better possession but our defence and goalkeeper were solid and managed to deal with any Swiss insurgence in our half. After about 10min we started to gain better control of the game, with quick passing and quick movement in midfield and upfront. We created a handful of chances and on a better day Daniele may have had a hat trick in the first half, however it has to be said the Swiss goalie made a few tremendous saves to keep Dani at bay.
The goals would come from our wingers, as predicted by coach Fafa. First it was Adrien who pounced on a loose ball to slot it into the bottom corner and second was a nice and quickly taken corner courtesy of Rob that was finished with a spectacular scissor kick volley into the top corner by Benji – contender for goal of the season. Latini had a last minute scare at the end of 1st half when we gave the ball away needlessly and conceded a free kick 18 yards out. It was deflected and headed for the bottom corner but thanks to quick reaction from our goalie Cuong we kept our clean sheet at half time. Latini 2-0 ahead and considering the chances we had it probably could have been more.
The second half started and Latini minds were still in the break. The Swiss played some good football and had a lot of possession in our half, only last minute defending ensured we kept our 2 nil advantage. However, poor play from Latini resulted with us not being able to get the ball out of our defence and a free kick on the right just outside the box, gave the Swiss team a way back into the game, a great taken free kick into the top corner and it was 2-1. At this point it looked like the Swiss might get back into the game, however, some smart substitutions with fresh legs on for Latini meant we stayed in control. We weather a few more minutes of Swiss pressure before a nice counter attack was finished off by Daniele. This got us back into the game and from here on in we stayed in control. We defended well and used our pace down the wings and in the centre to create another handful of chances, one of which resulted in Daniele’s second goal, 4-1 final score. Once again it could have been more.
nToday a great performance from all players, the fact that we have a good depth in the squad and can bring on quality players in the second half has been a huge plus for Latini this season. A big shout-out to Chris who came down to support the team and unfortunately didn’t get any match time – thanks mate. A few players deserve some extra credit: Gob Price who played an excellent game and defended well and was very disciplined at right back, Raffa who had a great game, seemed to win all his challenges at the back and always finds a team mate with his passes, Benji a great game in midfield and defence, versatile and competitive and with a potential Latini goal of the season, but my man of the match has to go to Yann tireless running, challenging, winning the ball and protecting the defence, slowing down the game and increasing the pace when necessary – great game.
nThanks to the Swiss for a very competitive but overall fair game and good luck for the rest of the season.
nReferee did ok, got most of the decisions for free-kicks correct but think some of the cards were unnecessary.
Next week: same same but different - another tough game, another 6 point game against the Vikings...come on Latini
