First points for the Dutch – looking up again
After a well-deserved weekend of rest, in which the Dutch played a friendly against their Southern neighbors to keep in shape, it was time for a match against fellow league strugglers Gaulois. Having lost the first seven matches of the season, the Orange Lions were very much determined to bring home the points. And it showed…

Match kicked off at 3pm at SJI, or actually at 2.50pm. At 3pm the French were already leading and unfortunately, yours truly missed that goal. Hence, he isn't able to comment and will accept this as a given. So, here we go again, match kicked off at 3pm at SJI with the Dutch already 0-1 behind. Coach Cheng had worked his magic from his high hat by bringing a 3-4-1-2 formation to the pitch. This really seemed to be packing out quite well, as the Dutchies took control of the match quite easily. Defense was strong, but the numerical majority on the midfield gave the through stroke. Especially on the right wing, where Philip turned his direct opponent hearing mad, the Dutch had control. It was no surprise that from this side of the pitch the 1-1 originated. Philip captured the ball, broad pass to Stephan who on his turn sent the ball deep. And although the ball was worked away to the left flank by the French it was Jasper who used his left toe to banane the ball in from an impossible angle: 1-1.

Ard is a proud man. And as often is the case with proud men when feeling overtrumped he decided to show the team who's the boss. Obviously yours truly is referring to the team's topscorers list, which he used to head up before Jasper scored his goal. So, five minutes later corner kick from the left (taken by Jasper, as if he felt uncomfortable sharing the first position on the topscorers list) immaculately put on a tray for Ard to head it home. Natural order restored, Dutch leading: 2-1. The remainder of the first half continued to be in Dutch hands and after 35 minutes of play the referee blew his whistle for half time.

In the second half the Dutch sacked a bit in, but besides a few long shots from OGS flying over, no notable events occurred. Okay, except for some remarkable yellow cards… Popquiz! Question 1: which card would a referee draw when a player accidently passes back the ball a little bit too firm after he has been whistled back for a light foul? (see below for the answer) Question 2: which card would a referee draw when a player is being kicked-out of the match by his frustrated opponent, which he tricked for the fifth time? (see below for the answer).

In any case, three points in the bag for the Dutch. Next week we will welcome the Casuals at out home ground. Kudos to the French for a fair game.
