It was a great team performance to secure a comfortable win against a hardworking and competitive German team. We had one of the strongest Latini squads available for this game...All players arrived on time (yippee) and roaring to go.
We started strong and dominated the game and controlled the ball. We created several good goal scoring opportunities with short passes through central midfield and down the flanks after 30 minutes we could have easily been up by 3 goals or more. Finally and as usual it was our top scorer Magaud that added his name to score sheet - 1:0 Latini. The remaining 10-15 minutes of the half were fairly even and we lost a bit of our foothold on the game. In the end a long kick was flicked on by a tall German striker for and our defenders were caught off guard 1:1 - half time score.
Against the run of play the Germans were still in the game and we knew the next goal and first 15 minutes of the second half would be crucial. Once again we came out the blocks running and continued to expose the German defence creating a few decent opportunities - in the end a great goal that was started by Benji and finished by him with his usual tireless run and quick short passing saw us go up 2:1 after 10 minutes.
At this stage the game was still in the balance and the Germans started to push more players up. A good German free kick that seemed to be heading for our bottom right corner saw a fantastic save by Cuong to keep Latini in front. After this it was all Latini, once again great work by Benji and a wonderful pass released Olivier Magaud and he comfortably slotted it past the German goalie for his brace of the game. 5 minutes later a near identical pass again from Benji released me down the middle and I duly obliged for my first Latini goal of the season to make it 4:1.
Thanks to the Germans for a competitive game and as usual working hard and making us work hard for this win - good luck for the remaining season and games.
The only room for improvement for this game would be to use our chances and to kill off the game a little sooner...Overall a great game from all Latini players, everyone delivered but a few deserve a special mention - Lacour worked tirelessly in centre midfield for the first half and closed down any potential German attacks - similarly Yann who came on to replace him after 50minutes, Gaetan and Chris ensured our defence stayed solid and were excellent at tackling and holding the line to play the Germans strikers offside, I - myself had a good game in an unfamiliar wide position, Benji had great second half (scored 1 and set up the remaining 2 goals), Magaud once again scored 2 goals but I will give the MOM to Olivier Michel who's hard work as 2nd striker often goes unmentioned, he manages to close down defenders, delivers tireless running and provides great support play linking up with midfield players - similarly he had a great game and is this week's Latini MOM.
Referee rating: 7, had a good game and got the big decisions correct including the linesmen.
Next week another tough game against a strong Rangers side that have quality but have not found their best form yet...
