Its a Bee-ting!!
It was a shame we couldn't get the game at the Padang (we were expecting a crowd of 100,000) but we made do with a Tampines pitch that hadn't been mowed for a very long time. Actually, it looked like no one had touched it in years - kudos to the groundsman who managed to paint the lines with a mop, a piece of string and 5 minutes to spare before kickoff.

SCC came out of the blocks well and scored 2 almost identical goals. Danny T played 2 lovely balls down the right hand touchline for Hutch who swung them in for JP. The first goal was a tap in, the second was more spectacular - JP went airborne, managed to get horizontal and thumped it in the corner with his head. 2-0 and it should have been three when JP won a free header from an Alonso corner and found the back of the net, only to be called for pushing.....pushing what we're still not sure.

That decision, along with the intense heat took the sting out of our game and the Swiss re-grouped, putting us under a good spell of pressure. With an extra man in the centre of midfield, they were stinging some passes together and looked dangerous going forward without really making any chances. As happens so often after a spell like that we went forward and scored, Scotty lifting a ball over the Swiss defense for Hutch to run onto and put past the keeper. 3-0 at half time.

Thankfully the heat went away at that point and the second half started with another SCC goal. MG thumped a long goalkick which was flicked on by Hutch, JP ran onto it and after dealing with the defender, sealed his hat-trick by gliding the ball in with his head.

The Swiss got their goal after a comical series of refereeing - Danny T was flattened in the area and nothing was given, and when Kian Ann (who was otherwise excellent) took a Swiss player down a good 3-4 yards inside the area a penalty was expected, but the referee somehow thought it occurred on the edge of the box. When MG was taken down 2 minutes later by a late tackle in his defensive area we collectively took one eye off the ball to content with the ref and the Swiss capitalised with a deflected shot that Shyam could only parry into the side netting. Definitely no claims of bias from the SCC side, but where is the consistency?

The conceded goal seemed to fire us up and we managed to score another 6 in a 20 minute spell of clinical finishing. Scotty got his name on the score sheet as did Mehdi after some good work with Danny T (his first for the SCC I believe).

JP (French Wizard) came on and almost got his name on the score sheet when he found himself one-on-one with the Swiss keeper who could only parry it into the path of JP (Yank poacher), who got his 4th for the game. JP then stole the ball from the Swiss defense, only to see Jean Philippe take control and get his first goal for the club with a good composed finish.

Nahar then came on as sub and got two for himself before Tommy kicked the ball into touch and into a bees nest. The bees went straight for the ref who was stung 3 times (hope he is ok) and decided he couldn't continue along with others who were affected (including the Gaffer Owen, who was too slow to run off the field and dodge the bees - no shock there :)

All in all a good win - another big game next week against the Lions who have also started the season well. MOM this week goes to JP McCarvel who scored 4 good centre forward goals by showing bravery and desire converting all that were half chances.  The other names to mention of good performers was Steve Rogers who slotted in at left back and was tremendous with both his defensive and attacking play.  Scott Anderson was tireless in the middle and was a constant threat with his tackling and direct running, also getting a goal.  The list goes on.....
