Drama at SJI!
Both teams probably feel that they should have taken full points from this game - but for totally different reasons....

The game started with a bang: with less than two minutes played the Swiss gave away a foul unnecessarily and yours truly hammered the ensuing freekick  past his own goalkeeper. Sorry Bill, nothing you could do! I can't remember when I scored my last own goal...but this one was memorable! I did get some consolation when I watched Abou Diaby of Arsenal later that night....

The Swiss were shaken, but not stirred and soon discovered their passing game. The Germans were on the backfoot for much of the first half. On 20 minutes finally the equalizer when Martin Stacher headed home. And soon after Michel Keiser gave the Swiss the lead with a spectacular diving header off Heinz Steinegger's freekick. The Germans finished the half truly second best. Bill had a very quiet first half in goal.

After the break, and again with the first foray into the Swiss area the Germans equalized, benefitting from some sloppy defending. The Swiss dominated for 60 minutes and found themselves on par with GAS! But Michel Keiser gave the Swiss the lead when he finished off a swift attack with a shot that went underneath the GAS keeper. At this point, I would not have put any money on a GAS comeback! Heinz Steinegger scored a perfectly good goal only to be ruled offside....and Kofi hit the post twice. With 5 minutes to go GAS scored twice within two minutes out of nowhere! And with two minutes to go the Swiss were suddenly staring at a defeat. How could this go so wrong? All Swiss now pushed forward in search of a late equalizer. And the Swiss camp was relieved when the referee awarded a penalty kick when a German defender handled the ball in the area. Heinz Braegger clinically converted for a 4:4 final score.

The Swiss should have sealed the victory when they were leading 2:1 and 3:2 and had plenty of opportunities to finish off GAS. GAS, on the other hand,  will rightly say that they should have closed shop when leading 4:3 with two minutes to go. 4:4 is probably a result where both teams feel that they dropped two points...
