Continued where we left off

Expectations and confidence was high this week for a Rangers victory following last week's solid first half performance that saw Rangers 3-1 up just before the game was called off.

n

The pitch was heavy the weather although overcast was hot and humid, The kind of combination that sucks the energy out of you and had the subs running up and down like the sorcerers apprentice to keep the sideline water supply topped up.

n

Rangers started strong with some fluid passing, Center Midfield was controlled by Todd and Cristian with Naughty and Pierre combination working well on the right hand side. The resulting attacks produced chances but no one as yet managed to find the back of the net.

n

After 20mins or so the Dutch started to come back into the game and threatened on a couple of counter attacks, One of which resulted in a fine save by Sybe to keep the score level. The breakthru came on the stroke of half time with some good build up play putting Todd through who blasted the ball past the keeper to make it 1-0 Rangers.

n

Rangers were full of confidence following the goal and a couple of changes to bring on fresh legs quickly paid off as Lee made a great run down the right and into the box resulting in a mistimed tackle from the Dutch defender, Penalty. Steve duly stepped up and slotted the ball precisely into the bottom right hand corner. 2-0 Rangers.

n

The third came as Chema picked up the ball in the Dutch box and seeing the keeper off his line sent the coolest of curling chips over the top of the keeper.

n

As the Dutch legs began to tire the midfield dominance grew and the fourth goal quickly followed with a good finish from Shane popping up from central defence at the far post.

The fith goal came from a Chema cross from the left hand side across to the far post which was volleyed home by Pierre.

n

Saving the best for last Cristian picked up the ball outside the box and jinked first one way then the next to beat three defenders and slotted the ball past the keeper to make the score a 6-0 Rangers

n

One disappointing moment came when Blacky had his yellow card cherry popped for comming back onto the pitch after getting some much needed water without the referees permission, I guess those are the rules but it eneded Steve's 25 year impressive record.

n

MOM today was Cristian for his tireless running, distribution and great individual Goal.

n

Thanks to the Dutch for battling on hard and fair in the tough conditions
