Need a Win!!
After some decent performances of late, Rangers thought that this may be a great chance to get our first win. However, when only 13 players show up out of the expected 16, its always going to be a difficult afternoon. The pitch was bumpy and fast so it was a scrappy affair. Lions edged possession early on and were rewarded after about 20 minutes. After an obvious foul on the Rangers player, the ref let play carry on and 5 seconds later it was the Lions first goal (play to the whistle). About 5 minutes later, the Lions forward was left alone with a one on one and neatly tucked it past our keeper. Just before half time Joaquin went for a run up the right flank and the mercurial one made a perfect cross for Blacky to rise like Tim Cahill and score his first headed goal in several years. 2-1 at the half and the game up for grabs. 2 ankle injuries of note from the first half...one from a large mound thats terribly placed a metre behind the goalline and a much more serious injury from an awkward fall (hope you recover fast Alex). Rangers came back into the game in the second half but rarely troubled the Lions keeper. We did have a one on one at the end of the match but couldnt finish. Overall a fair result that the Lions deserved to win from their first half chances.
Thanks to Ken who filled in as our keeper for the day. Lets hope we can muster up a solid squad for our next game against Brewerkz.
