Casuals, sporting a new away strip, had a small but strong squad for the game and hoped to build on their display of the previous week. Nippon appeared to have been on a recruitment drive and had clearly signed some â??new' players - I hope they play more often because they made a difference to the Nippon team, although I hope they also wear the proper kit in future!
The game began and Casuals had a lot of the ball however were a little laboured in possession and did not create too much in the early stages. On 20 mins, Gav headed a high ball back to Mooney who volleyed home from 25 yards to open the scoring. Within 5 minutes Mooney clipped the bar with another effort well set up by Yaz and Casuals hoped to press home their advantage, however on the half hour a speedy Nippon forward broke through the defence and fired home for 1-1.
Casuals stepped up their game and after some pressure, a dipping Butler corner was headed home by Mooney for 2-1.
Half time and Casuals changed their shape to better dominate the midfield with Caswell replacing the injured Gav. Casuals were largely in control thereafter, although the game was tight with some of the new Japanese players adding some bite to the Nippon challenges. A number of half chances were made although the Casuals were not creating the space of the previous week and the score-line was unchanged until Barber overlapped on the left and hit a superb cross which was headed back across goal by Mal and in off the far post.
Lenny, adding significant energy to the attack, replaced Yaz and found himself on a one-on-one, the ball taking a slight bobble as he struck it wide of the target. With 5 minutes to go Butler curled home the fourth from the edge of the box to complete the scoring.
A solid win against a much improved opposition although the Casuals will expect to pass the ball better in the coming weeks.
