Hotspurs Carve Out Victory From Wooden Performance

This was a strange game to read.  To all intent and purposes I had a sense that this was going to be very enjoyable and there was a sense of anticipation and plenty of energy before the game against our drinking partners.  Conditions were a bit slippery after all the rain, but the pitch was in good condition, the sky overcast and a strong squad, despite numerous absences, was ready to go.

And we were straight out of the proverbial blocks.  After only three minutes, Dancing Dalis had put us one up courtesy of a slight deflection and on twelve, Eddie picked the ball up from inside our half, raced, in that deceptively slow way of his, all of 60 metres, before he ran out of space (and puff) and was forced to slip the ball through to Anis who finished deftly over the advancing ‘keeper.  I thought this might have been the cue for a deluge and more than a 10 minute cameo from yours truly seemed to beckon, but Rangers are made of stern stuff and they not only came back into the game, but from then on in looked like the only side likely to score, as we stopped playing altogether.  Their forwards were lively and were causing us problems and they had a grip on the midfield, but we managed to dig in and defend magnificently to keep a clean sheet and claim 3 points courtesy of some good saves from Neil and stout defending, not least from Binnsy and Dean at the heart of the defence helping to keep Rangers at arm’s length.

Not a great game to watch from a Hotspurs point of view, although we improved a lot in the second half, but as Paul, and others, indicated after the game, this was a great victory against a very good opposition that we might have lost to earlier in the year; a testament then to the stronger physical more solid fight we put up these days.

Well done lads.
