With only 13 players available from a squad of 23 plus it looked like a daunting task, especially when Hibs turned up with hoards of players. However, this is the new Hotspurs and whatever squad we put out there is genuine quality in every department. It also helps when the likes of Dalis Supait and Dan Bennett (making his debut) are on the bench.
Unusually the pitch at Dempsey had suffered from the pounding of the rugby tournament the week previously and was not the flat even surface that the SCC has cultivated. Fortunately the pitch didn't hinder the Hotspurs free flowing football and within 20 minutes it was 3-0. Esad had notched a brace and Ali R placed a low shot into the corner. All three goals were picture perfect team efforts and credit goes to Paul and Bruce for starting the moves at right and left back respectively.
Hibs came back into the game at 3-0 as Chris limped off and a quick reshuffle was in order. Mike slotted in at centre half and after a brief period of the midfield going missing we again started to take control of the game and Dalis, Marko and Esad displayed the one touch wonders that once drew in the crowds to the S League. However, opportunities to increase the score came and went. Half time 3-0.
The second half is a bit of a haze in how the scoring occurred. Esad managed to score a second half hat trick, I managed to score a from a free kick on the edge of the box and new boy Dan, who impressed on his debut for his 30 minutes scored with a neat finish. There were several chances to increase the score further, but Marko, the man on the spot in previous weeks, was the main culprit, missing twice from 6 yards out.
There were good performances all round. Paul at right back, Florian swaggering off the left wing and Aran playing an extremely disciplined role on the right. Mike had more step overs at center half than Ronaldo, Neil made himself large on the couple of occasions he was called into action but the man of the match goes again to Ali R for his industry in midfield.
Though the score of 8-0 was a fair reflection of the game Hibs never gave up and played the game in extremely good spirits. There are many teams that would have resorted to 'other' tactics. Good luck in the remaining league matches and we look forward to meeting you again.
