The game against Brewerks is always a fixture a number of Latini players look forward to...a bit of derby with players having moved backwards & forwards between these two teams over the past year & emotions often running high...no surprise than with an emotional team talk from Fafa to get spirits fired up. And in the end this is how we managed to get the 3points...although we played good football at various stages throughout the game, it seemed that the key element was our desire, determination, and hard work. Brewerks have number of new players & seem a slightly changed side from our previous encounter..nonetheless a very strong team.
We started well & showed our desire to win the game & our challenges from the start. We created some good goalscoring opportunities with good runs down left & right flanks & nice movement from our 2 strikers up front. Unfortunately just like last week we struggled to convert our chances and make our pressure & dominance pay. Brewerks were mainly limited to long balls which our dynamic duo Chris & Darren were fairly comfortable dealing with. One of their attacks resulted in a Brewerks corner. Brewerks delivered a good ball to the front post & we struggled to clearly deal with it as our defenders clearance was blocked by an oncoming Brewerks player & deflected back into our own net...1:0 & completely against the run of play. This didn't dampen our spirits & we kept playing our football & created another 1 or 2 half chances. A bit more composure in front of goal could have seen us go into half time with a lead. We clearly had the better chances & generally seemed in control of the game.
After the half Brewerks seemed to have changed their game plan by trying to play balls behind our defenders & using the pace of their attackers. It seemed to work better for them & they created more in 2nd half without dominating the game. We continued to try & put presurre on Brewerks & the introduction of Fafa in the centre saw him play a beautiful ball over the Brewerks defence, into the run of Magaud who duly obliged to score his 1st of the game. Another Brewerks corner 1:2...similar to 1st corner with Latini not covering the near post and met with a firm shot from a Brewerks player. Once again we had to come from behind but this is a demonstration of the Latini spirit this season, we continued to work hard and get ourselves back into the game..another goal by who else but Magaud 2nd of the game..2:2 . All to play for for both teams at this stage as both were looking for the winning goal.
After this a very poor challenge by the Brewerks right back, saw Rob nearly knocked unconscious & with a bloody nose for the remainder of the game. How that tackle was not a red card only the ref will know. The only good thing from this incident is that Latini kept their cool & didn't retaliate as we have been prone to in games gone past - its good to see. We responded in the correct fashion with a 3rd & winning goal by who else but Magaud - a clean hatrick. 3 minutes to go & we defended well for the remainder. Latini 3:2 Brewerks final score...
Overall a great game from the entire 15 Latini players involved in this game and a truly desrved victory...no bad performances throughout the 90min. A good demonstration of the newly found character & teams spirit of the Latini squad. A few player deserve some extra credit on this wall of fame - great game from Darren in his first 90 minutes for Latini & immediately playing extremly well together with Chris in the centre of defence, only goals we conceded came from corners that neither of you could do much about, Rob ...heart, commitment & desire clearly demonstrated with his bloody nose, Lacour good to have you back even if your not 100% yet, Daniele once again great movement upfront just lacking that finishing touch. But MOM has to go to Magaud for scoring a hatrick & ensuring Latini got 3 points...the question is can he do a Ronaldo & score more than 40 this season...
Thanks to Brewerks for a great game of football, full of passion on the field.
Referee - generally ok but think he got 1 or 2 big decisions wrong...
Another big game against Swiss next week...come on lets keep this run going.
