A sweltering hot day at ITE Balistier and a very tricky pitch, I think the groundsmans strimmer broke down as he had only cut a small section of the pitch near the corner flag ag. For the first time in living memory the Lions were able to field a virtually unchanged squad in fact the starting eleven was the same except Wriggers had gone off to get his back fixed and Buffy came back from a blister on his little finger. Shame Buffy's mates didn't stick around to see him score, yes he did score.
A packed midfield made sure that the game was fairly untidy for the first 30 minutes, there were chances for both sides but they came from long balls from the defence, the Vikings have a centre back who can hit it further than Tiger Woods and he looks like he's side footing it. The Vikings found Simon in great form once again and we just kept missing the target. Three corners, three free headers at the back post and we put them all wide. One of the culprits was our leading score Faz so we made him take the next corner and he scored from it......typical.
At the break we felt that we just needed to be a bit more patient, we toyed with the idea of changing the formation but decided on keeping it the same for at least the first 20. Good job we did, first up Orch broke through the Vikings defence and finished brilliantly, and two great goals from Buffy, yes Buffy and Elliot sealed the game for the Lions. We finished very strongly and were very satisfied with the three points and the clean sheet.
There were numerous notable performances, but our Alan Power MOM for this week had to be Elliot Pitcher, our thanks once again to Laura for allowing him out!!!
Our thanks also to our hosts the Vikings, thankfully that frightening specimen Ottosen was injured, good luck for the rest of the season.
