Where the tireless Dutch soldiers fought their battle last week in the mire of SJI, this week they took on top team SCC at the swamps of Dempsey. Inspired by the two rugby teams, playing at the neighboring pitch, the Dutch battled like Trojans in a heroic match that could have gone either way.
First half saw two evenly matched teams, with a large chance for the Orange Lions already occurring in the second minute. But, as the game continued SCC took a slight upperhand, however not to say that the Dutch weren't able to put their mark (a grimly smirking orange lion) on the match. After 15 minutes, it was SCC that brought the first one home. Slack defense after a corner ball resulted in an untenable header: 0-1.But, five minutes later it was the Dutch that scored in a very similar way. Corner by Jasper, Jacco towering above all others, while producing a magnificent header: 1-1. Half time saw a draw on the scoreboard, well-deserved by the Dutch.
Second half drew a different picture as SCC increased the pace of the game. As a result, the Dutch came under more and more pressure and it wasn’t surprising that in the end SCC got the best of it. Full-time came with 1-3. Concluding it was a very good match for the Dutch; a great keeping Tommy in the goal preventing several certain goals, two markers fighting a dogged struggle in defense against one of the best strike-forces in the league, a midfield that was a great mix of wit and persistence and a young and tireless attack. All in all it should be regarded as a boost for the next match against fellow league strugglers Ubin. Thanks to SCC for making it an interesting game.
