Great win for the Vikings

Another solid performance saw the Vikings secure 3 points against Rangers. Steven arrived as last minute replacement for Eu Jin in goal - and had a good game in goal. The Vikings started brightly with Tommie and Bach both challenging the Rangers defence with some good runs, but it took a a corner in the 10th to open up the scoring, as the Calamari corner was headed in by Tommie.

The Vikings midfield with hard working Johan and Cala did well against the skillfull central midfielders of Rangers, while DT and Bugis both had good games as wingers. It was Bugis who started the attack that lead to the 2nd goal when he found Bach down the left, a perfect square ball to Tommie and 2-0 it was.

Defensively the Vikings looked to be in control but were caught napping when the skillfull Rangers striker outdribled two defenders, made a perfect pass to back post where the Rangers number 10 for once had outpaced Bugis in what was  a terrific running battle down our left/their right wing, he did not fail to convert and suddenly it was game on again. However before half time Tommie would make it 3-1 after snatching the ball from a Rangers freekick (yes, they did start the ball), running with the ball from our own half and executing the opportunity neatly.

In halftime we changed around our defensive duties and credit to Elbo for neutralizing the Rangers number 4, while Rafa continued to mark out the other Rangers striker. In the other end it was all abt taking our chances as we had failed to convert 2-3 massive chances.

Our strikers listened and within 10 minutes it 5-1. The 4-1 goal came as Chris outdribled a defender, after which Tommie snatched the ball from Chris and converted easily (you owe him a goal !!!). 5-1 was the goal of the game, Bugis on the left took the ball down with his chest, beat his defender, and squared the ball, that somehow seemed to be in the air for minutes giving Bach plenty of time to decide what to do - he decided to go for it and with a beautifull strike he made it 5-1.

Vikings did a range of substitutions as the game slowly died, and was good to see Captain Tvilde back in action and also solid performances from the rest of our bench. Rangers got a goal for 2-5 as we failed to clear and hold our ground. However the win was secured and we are now looking forward to playing the Germans next weekend. MOM went to the "4-goal-hero" - Tommie, who had another good game.

Thanks a lot to the referees who had a really good game allowing the game flow nicely. Thanks as well to Rangers who have a lot of quality, it will not be long before the first win I am sure.

Michael
