Overall a very professional performance from the Latini squad, playing some good football at times and approaching the game and competition with the right mindset, big thanks also to our new coach Joon and the best president Charlie.
We knew we would be in for a tough battle against a hard working and well organised GAS team. Latini started extremely well attacking with pace, power and ensuring we put pressure on the GAS players. We created a handful of good openings, none better than my sitter from 8 yards out with only the goalie to beat, instead I decided to hit the outside post :(. In addition to that we had a few nice crosses and shots from just outside the box including a freekick that came back of the crossbar.
Our 2 goals however came from slightly fortunate circumstances – 1st a miskicked pass from myself that the GAS goalie should have dealt with but he seemed caught in 2 minds being slightly outside the box he realised he couldn’t pick the ball up and hesitate long enough for Angel to take it out of his feet and slot it into an empty net – all credit for Angel putting the pressure on the GAS goalie when most strikers would have given up. 2nd goal a great attack from Latini down the right wing and a good cross whipped in by Pricey the Gob, the ball bounced off the ground and onto the hand off the GAS defender – penalty! Slightly harsh penalty but nonetheless the GAS defender saw the ball travelling 20 yards and maybe could have done more to avoid the contact. Up stepped Magaud to score on his birthday and ensuring we had additional reasons to celebrate at his party of the year later that night.
2-0 Latini at half time both goals a little fortunate but nonetheless deserved as Latini dominated the play and created more than enough chances to be comfortably ahead.
GAS started well in the second half but even so our defensive work in particular our back four and keeper were solid on the day. As much as GAS had their fair share of possession for the first 10minutes they struggled to break down our defence, or get into dangerous positions in our last third. As far as I can recall GAS had no shots on target. Slowly Latini upped the tempo again looking to get a third and wrap up the game. It came from a great freekick taken by Matteo who curled a wonderful ball into the box that was headed in from 6 yards out by Adrien. In the last 20 minutes we created further chances to extend our lead with some nice intricate passing, play and runs from our midfielders and strikers but it was not to be.
All in all a solid performance from the Latini squad, defensively strong and well organised as well good when moving the ball forward – a very professional and compact team display. Man of the match - a few players deserve some mentioning our keeper Cuong who’s shouting and organising at the back gives our defenders confidence, he came off his line a few times to clear any potential danger and deserves some credit for his performances over the past few games. The entire back four – Raffa, Darren, Chris, Rob (Will & Matteo), winning their battles and ensuring we kept a clean sheet – lets remember that the GAS team managed to score 4 against Casuals last Sat and 4 against Hotspurs earlier on and we managed to contain them, prevent any counter attacks and ensure they had no shots on target in the second half – not a bad performance. Olive Lacour working tirelessly in midfield and Benji smiling and running across the pitch but my man of the match has to go to Olive Magaud for his performance on Saturday from 5pm till late into the wee Sunday morning hours...this included a gold suit, a huge golden $ sign across his chest, some of the hottest girls at his birthday party combined with his goal in the GAS game well done mate.
Thanks to GAS for a game well played and overall played in the right spirit.
Thanks to ref’s who generally had a good game.
