Brewerkz too strong for German All Stars...
 n

Our first game at our new home ground ITE Tampines.

n

Brewerks started the game slow, sizing up the unfamiliar looking German team.  It was GAS who had the better of the initial few exchanges and seemed to want to get the ball to their right winger as often as possible. Thomas doing a good job tracking him from midfield and giving Jon cover when needed and that threat was neutralised early on.

n

Brewerks then began to exert their influence on the game with more possession for the next 20 minutes, but had little to show for it apart from a host of missed chances. We made a conscious effort to pick up the pace of the game but the thick grass and small pitch not helping as we struggled to get our passing game going   Chance after chance went a begging and finally after some smart play down the right a cross from Matteo was back heeled harmlessly by Kelly toward goal and the GAS defender ended up poking it away from his keeper and into his own net.  From then on, one way traffic as we continued to put pressure on the GAS defence who did very well to keep our strikers on a tight leash limiting them to very little action on the ball. So... up pops Matt Harding from right back, carrying the ball forward from defence and taking on 3 GAS defenders before finishing a brilliant solo effort that put us 2-0 up as we went into the break.

n

Going into the second half, we stressed the need to be organised in defence, step up the pace and get the 3rd goal to kill off the game.  However the exact opposite happened as our defence went to sleep. Ike under no pressure, passed the ball out to the GAS Midfielder who played a through ball in to his striker and he finished calmly by rounding the onrushing Nicholas. 2-1

n

Brewerks-unfazed and went on the offensive again. Thomas kept good possession of the football in midfield making it hard for the GAS to get possession back. Stuart and Matteo were getting on the ball more and also into the box more causing additional problems for the German defence and Bright holding well.. Numerous chances were missed or well saved by the German keeper but finally, an opportunistic goal by Yazid who hooked the ball over his head and over the keeper for 3-1. Final goal was a good passing movement from the team across the field before a short cross was drilled across the goal and left back and Captain for the day Jon Bett tapped in to put the game out of reach of the Germans.

n

The game was played in good spirit by both teams with no major incidents.
The referee’s had a good game apart from the fact that he seemed way too eager to get the yellow card out to the Brewerks players especially one when he booked our striker for not backing off from a free kick when he was already walking away from a free kick with his back to the ball
