A Opportunity Lost
A long, wide and wet (but well playable) PSA pitch saw the Hibs and Rangers battle it out one on one for what the Dutch would describe as ‘the emporor’s beard’, literally translated.
Both teams started off playing ok but with little to show. That was till Rangers lost the ball in possession in the build up, routinely finished off by the Hibs in the turnover. Rangers managed to push back and soon after saw a great cross just as greatly headed in by Lee: 1-1. The soaking pitch started to take its toll on players and tiring legs were playing a ball around without creating much. It would have been nice to have secured the score till half time for some rest, refreshment and pep talk but that was not to be since the Hibs decided it suited them better to go 1-2 up.
Rangers brought some fresh legs on for the second half and had the best intention the turn the game around. But that didn’t happen. Hibs continued to look dangerous on the flanks and this lead to their third goal, when their attacker broke free on the left and finished off well. A similar well executed counter attack on the right would later lead to the 1-4. In both cases the Rangers defence was simply too slow to react and switch. Overall both teams had some additional chances in the second half but the game had no more goals in it.
Congrats to the Hibs and may the beard suit you well.
