One lap to go....

Two games to go, with a chance to secure third spot in the league and things were not looking good for Brewerkz.

Going into the game with Hibs, we only had 11 players of which, one or 2 still suffering from ill health/injuries and another one or two recovering from alcohol overdose of the previous day, and would rather have been home in bed. Nevertheless there was a job to be done. On the opponent’s side; it did look like they were also down on numbers as they were missing few faces from our previous 2 encounters.

n

First half and we went 1-0 up. Some nice passing movement and our attackers carved the Hibs defence apart. Till then it was a really dull game which was played at super slow pace and really lacked any excitement whatsoever. After the goal Brewerkz continued to create many chances to increase the lead but failed to capitalise.

Hibs got a lucky break when Nicolas and Ike decided to tango, leaving the ball to bounce free for the Hibs striker to tap into an open goal. A short while later, we went up the other end and got our second goal. It was another nice piece of attacking football, passing out from the back and going the whole length of the field before playing a 1-2 in the box and a calm finish to give us the lead.

n

Following that we missed a whole sack full of chances. Hibs were doing a lot of running and closing down but not really much threat in attack. Brewerkz were doing a lot of attacking but were totally toothless in front of goal.

n

Second half was much of the same. Attack after attack saw little end product.  Kenny and Peter would not have scored again even if you stuffed money into their pockets and sent them to one of the famous/infamous lorong’s. The only entertainment was probably the amazing misses that littered our second half performance. It was not very entertaining though for the poor souls doing the defending on this day as the Hibs did create a few problems which could have seen them coming away with a point.

In the end we held out for a deserved victory.

n

Fair play to Hibs for making a game of it although league table wise they did not really have anything to play for. There were a few kung-fu tackles from certain quarters, which, thankfully did not connect with anything/anyone and of course the usual blah blah blah from both sides, but all in all it was mostly a good spirited affair.

n

Although under constant pressure, the referee did his best to ensure that football remained a man’s game by ignoring the small fouls here and there. Both sides probably had cause for complaints on various occasions – and complain we did, but looking at the whole picture on hindsight we have to say the referee did pretty well.

n

With the 3rd spot also hotly contested by Latini and Hotspurs, the possible 10 goals we missed today may come back to haunt us if we do not register a win against the Germans in our last game.
