The cliche goes that cup matches are different, and that anything is possible in a cup match. The Hollandse FC likes to believe in cliches, and so the squad started the match against the ISA Lions in an optimistic mood.
nThis mood was however short-lived, when the referee failed to blow his whistle against a frontal challenge on goalkeeper Tommy within his own box: 1-0.
nThe Hollandse, not unaccustomed to setbacks early in the match picked themselves up quite well afterwards. The defense, lead by Gavin, stood firm, the midfield played aggressive and on-the-ball while and various goal opportunities were created with a prominent role for the very active talents Philip and Daniel.
nPeople who regularly play 4-in-a-row know however that if you focus too much on attacking, you become complacent in your defense. This is exactly what happened, and the Lions did not fail to benefit from that: 2-0.
nAlso in the second half the Dutch had a number of good opportunities, but both Wim, Ard and Philip missed by an inch or two, maybe three. After the 3-0 the Dutch finally got their goal. Jasper, whose corner balls these days come with more accuracy than Barney is throwing his darts, delivered a corner straight to Ard who headed the 3-1.
nThe match was fixed at 4-1 due to a penalty awarded after a fault challenge at the edge of the box.
nThe Hollandse FC congratulates the Lions and wish them all the best on their road to The Cup.
