Vikings grab second win of the season!!

5th game of the season against the Hotspurs was played 3pm at the Japanese association on a very warm Saturday afternoon.

We made several changes in our line-up as we have conceded far too many goals this season. Going into this game our main objective was to make sure our opponent didn't score any easy goals. Even though Hotspurs scored one goal, the coaching staff was pleased with our team's organization throughout the match.

The match started out quite even as both teams tried to control the game. On this very warm afternoon it was crucial to get possession and force the opponents to chase the ball. We had some good chances within the first 20 min. especially striker Lars Moeller had his fair share of great opportunities. Unfortunately his efforts didn't result in any goals. After roughly 25 min we got the all important opening goal. We were awarded a free kick just inside the Hotspurs half. Morten crossed the ball to the far post and yours truly guided the header across the goal and into the net. 1-0 Vikings!

After we took the lead we did a good job to keep possession. This surely tired some Hotspurs players, but the heat was already killing several Vikings as well. 10 min before the break Michael Oestergaard saw an opening in the Hotspurs defense; he made a long through pass to Mikael Hansen, who scored from the rebound after his first shot was blocked by their keeper. Mikael really worked his socks off to get this goal, but that's simply what we expect from our "Ironman". 2-0 at halftime.

Second half was played as you could expect. Hotspurs tried to push on to get back into this game and we had several opportunities from the counter-attacks. Even though Hotspurs managed to push us back at some stages of the half our defense did well to keep Hotspurs from getting more than a few chances. Hotspurs managed to score once, but we really should have sealed the deal earlier with a goal from one of our counter-attacks.

Anyway the match ended 2-1 and we were pleased to get our well deserved win. With our new defense looking good, the Vikings will set sails and conquer more points in the coming weeks.
