On to Game 3

5pm kick off at ITE Simei for our game against Hotspurs. The usually hard and bumpy pitch has been in good condition over the last few weeks due to all the rain but this weekend we were disappointed to find the grass overgrown and in dire need of a cut!

n

Hotspurs started brightly. Having lots of possession and creating numerous chances in the first half. However, a combination of bad finishing and a bit of luck on our part kept the score level for most of the first half. Brewerkz were not playing particularly well going forward. For a team that likes to play fast and utilise our quick players, the long grass really nullified our pace advantage over our more experienced opponents. We had decent amount of possession but again (as always) we rushed the pass and were guilty of trying to look for the killer pass when it was never on.

Against the run of play, Brewerkz got the opening goal after Hotspurs defenders failed to clear the ball and Bright slammed it home from just outside the box. Apart from that, the Hotspurs keeper made a few comfortable takes and in reality had very little to do

n

Second half and Hotspurs made a couple of changes and within 15 minutes they had a chance to level when the referee awarded a penalty for hand ball. Over the last few weeks I have been bemoaning the fact that the referees were not making the big decisions and just as I secretly feared, we got a big decision against us. Nothing to complain about though, it was a hand ball and credit to the referee for making the decision. Hotspurs impressive left back converted for 1-1.

n

Few minutes later and a long ball over the top from Hotspurs found the striker beating the offside trap. A clever quick shot with the ‘wrong foot’ caught keeper Nicolas off guard and 2-1 to hotspurs. Hotspurs left back was creating havoc down the wing. A number of his positive runs ended with good crosses into our box but our defenders were dealing well with the strikers on most occasions. We were busy concentrating on that threat down our right and forgot the 'bigger' threat on the left. On one occasion we failed to track twinkle toes Marko as he danced his way in from the left. A hop here, a skip there, a few body faints and a couple of tip-toes over the daisies later the ball was in the back of the net again.  It was a piece of individual brilliance from the big man who only came on in the second half but made a big difference on the score line.

n

Brewerkz were clearly struggling.  Our main goal scorers missing for some reason or other and we played our 2 newest recruits upfront. The lack of understanding between the midfield and strikers was clearly evident as we failed to get any sort of service to our strikers and we also failed to create any scoring opportunities from anywhere else on the field.

n

With 15 minutes to go, a Brewerkz corner is half cleared. Chris hit home from just outside the box to give us a glimmer of hope. Hotspurs however held out for the win.

n

2 Games played and the score is 1-1. Game 3 sees us meeting in the Cup Semi Finals in 3 weeks. We will make a better game of it..

Referee and team had a solid game. There are no complaints about the referee on this occasion and that’s always a good thing.
