This rescheduled game against the Vikings caused us much distress as we had a lot of players away. Not for the first time this season we struggled to get a squad out. The thought of playing the in-form Vikings when lacking numbers was not very appealing.

En route to the game it was raining heavily everywhere. Surely the game would be called off... Or so I hoped. Amazingly, Dempsey field was probably the only place on the island that was not raining. So game on!

n

Brewerkz have not been playing at our best in recent times. We started the season very well but slowly slipped away. It is often a dilemma which Brewerkz team was going to show up on the weekend, and more so on this occasion when we were lacking numbers and about to face a tough opposition. But just as how it was amazing that the rain failed to show up at Dempsey, it was as amazing that the real Brewerkz suddenly appeared again after being in hiding for a few weeks.

n

Our play in the first half was very pleasing to watch as the team played with confidence and kept possession of the ball for long periods of time. Phil and Peter immediately went on the offensive and kept launching raid after raid on Viking territory with Jon and Stuart providing backup and extra firepower when necessary. Maurizio was holding the middle well and supporting the attackers whenever possible and Anthony was putting in a good shift closing down and winning the ball from the front.

n

We went 1-0 up when Yazid converted from a cross. However just a couple of minutes later the Vikings drew level when they scrambled in a goal of a counter attack. Brewerkz never lost our momentum though and we went in at half time 2-1 ahead with another goal from Yazid.

The second half saw Vikings taking the offensive as they launched raids into our territory. We held out well for most periods and against the run of play we got a third goal from a free kick. Phil deflected the ball past everyone-and we looked comfortable. Somewhere along the way, we had 2 clear penalty shouts (and shout we did) not given. The first was a shove in the back on Anthony while attempting a header in the penalty box and another was a deliberate hand ball off a direct free kick. 2 good chances for us to increase our lead further but it was not to be.

n

Vikings then went down the other end and got behind our defence and their striker was brought down in the box. Penalty awarded and penalty missed and we were let off the hook.

Before the game we
did talk about not giving  away fouls around our defensive third due to the height advantage the Vikings had over us, but give away free kicks were all we were doing and before long Vikings did get a goal from one of those free kicks. 3-2 and they were piling on the pressure but it was Brewerkz who scored again and held out for the win.

n

Thanks to Maurizio for turning up to play despite being injured. Many players performed extremely well during this game but mainly Brewerkz played as a team with everyone helping out in every department to contribute to the final result. .

Best of luck to the Vikings for the remainder of the season. Though not too much that they overhaul us for fourth spot
