Goalfest at Japanese Association

Despite a few players missing, we were still able to put together a competitive squad, so hopes were high that we would walk away with a few points. Unbeaten for 5 consecutive games and encouraging performances throughout the past weeks made us hope for another win.

But "erstens kommts anders und zweitens als man denkt" (German saying that it never turns out the way you plan..).

We still remembered the beating we suffered against Ubin in our first encounter in September so we prepared for another tough battle especially in midfield.

The game started out with goal scoring action on both sides. 10 minutes into the game and it was already 2-1 Ubin. GAS scored the first one after a nice combination on the right wing; Chris delivered a cross which was deflected only to land in front of Heiko who whacked it into the back of the net to make it 1-0 GAS.

About 30 seconds (!) after kick-off Ubin managed to equalize with GAS defense seemingly asleep. Another 5 minutes later they still hadn't woken up and enabled Ubin to grab the lead.

And the tragedy was about to continue - no one on the GAS side made an effort to make the team wake up and so the 3rd Ubin goal was just a matter of time.

Some 10 minutes later no one picked up the Ubin midfielder who delivered a cross into the box where 3 German defenders (plus goalie) stood and watched the Ubin striker as he scored the 3-1. Open house at GAS defense.

The Germans were lucky to trail by only two goals at that time - a 4th or 5th goal for Ubin could have easily happened. But it was Open House at the Ubin defense as well and so GAS managed to tie the game with Chris scoring after a nice pass from Heiko, and Marcus scored the equalizer after a corner.

So 3 three all it was at halftime and GAS vowed to step up their defensive effort in second half to prevent any more simple goals while trying to take advantage of the unstable Ubin defense at the same time.

GAS seemed to be able to do just that when they grabbed the game lead after a nice run by Kerim who missed his first shot, but managed to set up Tormaschine Volker who made it 4-3. But again it didn't take long for Ubin to equalize. And so the game went on with chances on both sides - and goals. It was GAS' turn again and Michael scored on a nice solo run to put GAS ahead yet again.

There were another 25 minutes to go - and two more goals to come! Unfortunately for the wrong side (pardon my subjectivity).

During the last 20 minutes, GAS completely gave the game away. Wasting huge opportunities to extend the lead and displaying very sloppy defending/goal keeping.

As a result, Ubin managed to turn the game around in those last 20 minutes and took all three points.

And GAS? Well, GAS managed to thrash a great opportunity to win another game and did so in a very disappointing manner.

So here we are empty-handed yet again...

Thanks to Ubin for a fair game!
