matchreport - 04-Oct-08 - german as v. swiss
Team Swiss

Hard fought game among "friendly "neighbours

After the drubbing against SCC last week the Swiss were looking for a strong reaction against the Germans. Both teams were depleted, the Germans even more than the Swiss. So no surprise then that the Swiss took the game to the Germans but a Christian Buchmann header (!) off the post was all they could show from the first 15 minutes of possession.

When Francis weaved his magic through the German defence he found Thomas Franz who clinically dispatched the ball into the net. 1:0 Swiss on 15 minutes. More Swiss pressure and Martin Stacher to double the lead, again Francis with the assist, this time a wonderfully timed free-kick. Not much more action in the first half, with the exception of a few yellow cards.

Marcus encouraged his troops "score one against them and they will get nervous". I am sure that would have happened, but fortunately the Germans only scored with one minute to play. Too little too late. However, the game was much more balanced in the second half and the Germans also missed a penalty.

On the basis of the 90 minutes the Swiss deserved to have their nose in front. As expected, the game was hard fought and had a few crunchy tackles/body checks and the referee showed a number of yellow cards (I stopped counting...) and one yellow/red card.

Swiss line up: Crawley, Hakim (Stokkmo), Bobbia, Keiser, Kaegi (Wilde), Buchmann (Garatti),Roberts, Anthony, Schulthess (Day), Stacher, Franz (Garatti)
