Germans win a tough fight against brave Nippon
It was clear for the German All Stars that this game would never be a walk in the park, as NIPPON is a different team this season. With this the direction for the German tanks was clear: Take on the water battle at Turf City and show the good old German fighter qualities.
The Mannschaft started with Tim Schmeichel in goal and the legendary Back-4 Mister Rode, Schachi Weightwatcher, Hermann Hangkok and Rino Zerus. The midfield was even more legendary with Phil Latio, Thomas Burner, Franz Klammer and Jens Road Runner. Up front is was the 2 Oldies but Goodies: Klemmie Sparwasser and Volle Volley.
The game started a bit nervous on both sides and after a while the German team seemed to come better into the game, although Nippon always looked dangerous, waiting for their counter attacks. German’s Best player during that period was Jens Hoffmann, who was running his socks off on the left side and created a lot of space with his pace (What a poetry!). Unfortunately he had to drop out of the game after only 25 minutes, when he needed stitches on a head-wound. Jordi Cruyff came on and the game still seemed to be dead locked until Klemmi Sparwasser with a moment of excellence hammered the ball into the back of the net from 20 meters out. This result stayed until half time and so during the Pausentee Coach Wolle Petri requested from his Mannen to stay fully focused and fight to the wire.
The second half started with some good pressure from Nippon, but the Germans managed somehow to keep a clean sheet with great work by the Defense Legends and the Youngstar Goalie Tim. After only 5 minutes into the second half it was penalty for Germany, when Volle was brought down in the box. Genosse Sparwasser made no mistake and so it was 2-0 for the Germans. Who thought the game was over – was very very wrong. A Big Big compliment to NIPPON, who never gave up until the end of the game putting a lot of heart into the encounter and putting a lot of pressure towards the German goal. While a few chances were created the German defense stood tall with Tim, Hermann + The Weightwatcher putting in all their hearts to defend the German lead. With 15 minutes to go and the game still pretty much on the brink, as a Nippon goal could have further fuelled their great spirit, it was another moment of excellence between the 2 German striker Sauriers, that decided the game. Herr Rode did another of his 55 meter throw-ins and Genosse Sparwasser picked up the ball on the flank. He paused, looked, paused and looked again for his Sturm-Kamerad Volle, who meanwhile moved into position. A wonderful cross reached Volle at the edge of the 5 yard box. He kept his eyes open and a smile on his face when he gently and precisely headed the ball into the long corners back of the net. 3-0 it was, but NIPPON still kept fighting and pressuring. The Germans brought on Michel Platini and Sebastian Schweinsteiger who nicely slotted into the German fighting spirit. With 4 minutes to go it was again Michael, who finished off a great counter attack started by Volle. Then the game was over and the Germans were happy even though the result was a too high given the great performance and fighting spirit of NIPPON. Keep it up guys and you will go a long way this season!
Man of the match goes to Jens Hoffmann, who was clearly the best German on the pitch until he had to go for some very expensive beauty surgery. All The Best Jens from the whole team and get well soon. Many Thanks also to Markus Dolenga who worked as the ambulance, came back to the field but unfortunately could not make it anymore for some playing minutes.
