Swiss win second half 3:2
Eventhough 3/4 of the defensive line up changed compared to the successful opener against Latini, the Swiss went confidently into the game against Brewerkz .
However, there was soon nothing to see of that confidence: Brewerkz running circles around the Swiss on the entire pitch. The Swiss were very fortunate to be down by only two goals at the break. Some woeful finishing and a couple of superb saves from Bill Crawley kept the result respectable. None of the 11 Swiss on the pitch in the first half reached even 50% of their potential. The forwards did not get a sight on goal, the midfield was all over the place except near their opponents and the defenders were busy sorting out who should mark whom and never got the speedy strikers under control. A first half to forget....
The second half was a different picture. Brewerkz, surely very confident that this weak Swiss team of the first half could not pose any danger took the foot off the pedal. When Stroppini sidefooted after five minutes off a cool Buchmann pass it was game on! But like so often last year, the Swiss would be punished too easily: off a Swiss (!) corner Brewerkz countered swiftly and with the Swiss brains all on forward mode it was all too easy for the striker to run unchallenged and to finish off coolly. When another defensive switch off allowed Brewerkz to score a fourth goal it was all over. Or was it? Out of nowhere the Swiss suddenly applied the pressure. First it was super sub Christian Buchmann who scored with a crisp shot. With about 10 minutes to go the Swiss were already celebrating Michel Keiser's goalbound shot only for the Brewerkz goalkeeper to save with an outrageous piece of goalkeeping. Kofi came close and when Christian Buchmann converted a free kick from 20 metres expertly it was suddenly 4:3! But the referee showed mercy with Brewerkz who suddenly looked pale and only added 30 seconds of extra time, despite 9 substitutions, a couple of injury breaks and some expert Brewerkz time wasting.
Brewerkz have a strong side and they should have closed the door on the Swiss in the first half when they could have scored half a dozen. But the moral of the game is (for the Swiss): never give up, always believe that we can come back, even from a couple of goals down. We have to look at the positives from the second half when we play our German neighbours next week!
Congratulations to Brewerkz, With that squad and skill, they will no doubt be in the top 3 to 5 again this year!
