A good pitch at Dempsey was hosting Vikings & Ubin for a 3pm kick-off this Saturday. Due to early afternoon showers the pitch condition was nearly perfect, so Vikings were all set to go - but had to wait some ten minutes for the referees to arrive (disappointing).

We started the match well, as we looked dangerous going forward - our midfield & defense were solid, but we failed to play that sexy passing football we showed in recent weeks. It was not a beautiful first half, but we got the opening goal when Marco & Kenni linked up for the second week in a row. Low cross by Marco and a good finish from Kenni at the front post. Marco & Fallesen both had a one-on-one with the Ubin keeper to make it 2-0, but unfortunately they failed to convert. Our keeper Steven had little to do in the first 45 minutes and we deservedly led 1-0 at half-time.

Second half was all about wrapping it up and we thought we did just that after some 5-10 minutes. A counter-attack led by Fallesen, followed by a X-run by Kenni & Tommie. Fallesen made a great through pass to Kenni, who used the famous "Long Toe poke" to put it behind the keeper. 2-0 Vikings and looking good for the third or at least we should. We made some substitutions during the second half, which might disturbed our organization and Ubin gained more possession.

The matched looked to be under control for Vikings, as we had several decent counter-attacks and Ubin only had a few minor chances despite their upperhand in ball possession. With 10 minutes to go, we suddenly lost our concentration and Ubin got a glimmer of hope, as they headed on the crossbar and converted the rebound. The solid defending and good organization were now non-existent and Ubin were pushing for the equalizer. They got their second goal within two minutes, as we committed an unnecessary free-kick on the right side. On the following cross our keeper unfortunately miss-hit his punch and the Ubin captain was awarded the easiest of headers. 2-2 and it was all to play for. Ubin pushed forward, but we also had some good chances. A few low crosses could have given us the winning goal, but it ended with a disappointing 2-2 draw.

Very disappointing that we conceded two late goals, as we should have been able to hold on to our lead with only 10 minutes left.
We have no other choice, but to provide a better performance next week.

Thanks to Ubin for a good game. They battled hard for the draw and must have been pleased to get it at the end.
