It was the second game of the new COSMO season and it was another classic encounter between Hotspurs and the German All Stars. The first challenge of the game was the Logistics, as due to the rain the game had been moved to be played @ Turf City. Surprisingly All Stars made it and so the muddy-murphy's rumble could start. It was water all over the pitch which produced a very entertaining and exciting game for the - mainly female - 25,000 supporters.
For the very first time The German All Stars presented their new East German Junior Rock Star Felix Valderama in goal, who with an excellent performance ensured himself free entrance and low-budget entertainment during the Saturday-Night-Fever. More about this later. As Libero it was Marcus Kuhni-gunde back on stage with a massive performance. The 2 defenders were Hermann Monster and living Legend Steffen Schachi Metzfelder. The midfield consisted of the Jenenser Wirbelwind Ralf Schnupphase, the Bavarian Magician Madse Oberbayer, the divine Erzgebirgs-Makalele Heiggo Erler and the Mutterstadt-Stugart Pop Icon Dimo Balakov. Up front it was Capitano Michael Sparwasser, Volker Hrubesch and The Walz-From-The Palz Dr. Sascha Cha Cha Cha.
Coach - Wolle Petri - told his All Stars, that one swallow does not make a summer, but apparently this was too philosophical for the boys and so the German team started into the game as if it was a high-tea event (not in OT), struggling to cope with the force of Hotspurs and the waterfestival on the pitch. Hotspurs clearly was the better team in the first 15 minutes and with a nice header after a corner they were 1-0 up. In past seasons this would have been the dead sentence for the German All Stars, but this time a "Ruck" went through the Mannschaft and bravely they final took on the game, the pitch and the opponent. Mr.Everywhere - Mountain Makalele Heiko - switched on his super natural powers and so you could see him plough through the rice-paddies, as if somebody had told him if we lose this game the Berlin wall will be rebuilt. During one of his marches up front his shot got deflected and it fell to Dr.Cha Cha Cha, who beautifully converted it with a cool finish. So it was 1-1 and the game open again. Both teams where really up for it now and as much as it was possible given the tough pitch conditions the game went up and down. After a nice combination in midfield and with a deadly Uwe-Bein-Pass Volker Hrubesch set up again the Walzing Cha Cha Cha, who kept his cool and slotted home his second goal of the day. 1-2 down Hotspurs now put more efforts into their attack and the German's had to survive a string of corners and attempts, which either went wide or were nicely "entschaerft" by Sachsen-Valderama Felix. So it was 2-1 at the half time tea and Wolle Petri told his Mannen, that the only way out is to keep fighting and fighting. Volker came off and it was Mr.Eu de Cologne - Toni Tattoo, who blew new life into the German tanks. He worked tirelessly up front and won important headers, which helped to get some breathing space beginning of the second half, when Hotspurs came close to level the game by hitting the cross bar. The Germans survived a couple of shaky minutes and it was exactly during this period and after a long ball when Dr. Sascha Cha Cha Cha demonstrated that his head does not only have a great intellectual capacity, but can also nicely be used for heading a ball into the penalty box, where the former 1860-Munich-Rocket Madse Oberbayer with a magic "Ausfallschritt" beautifully made it 3-1. Now the Germans smelled that this game could be won and with massive effort by the whole team, they did not allow Hotspurs major chances. During this period especially the midfielders and defenders clearly demonstrated the capability to survive Treibsand-Attacks, as the pitch got more muddy by the minute. In a counter attack it was again Dr. Cha Cha Cha steaming into the box only to be brought down, which resulted into a penalty. As the Germans had missed a penalty last week it was the Capitano Michael Sparwasser himself, who stepped up to convert. Ignoring the muddy-murphy pitch he nicely slotted it home and so the game was over with less than 10 minutes to go. Rino and Mike came on and the Germans managed the game "home" to win the first 3 points of the new season.
Thanks to Hotspurs for a very fair game in rather difficult circumstances due to the rain. Man of the match goes to Sascha Heusselsche for scoring 2 goals and being massively involved in the remaining 2.
The German All Stars celebrated the win in style during their 70-80's Party in the Hollandse Club together with 350 frenetic party animals. It was said, that Mr.Austin Zylajew several times lost his teeth during that event, which did not keep him from taking home a very beautiful Brazilian Samba-Queen.
