It was Brewerkz vs. Hotspurs for the third time this season with this match probably being the most important.

n

The game started on a very high tempo. It was the kind of reckless attacking football that could only be enjoyable for the neutral supporter. Both teams were going for it and it was end to end stuff. First half would definitely have been awarded to Hotspurs who had lots of possession and many goal scoring opportunities but failed to convert on most occasions, until they were awarded a free kick outside the box for hand ball. A very well placed effort from Jorg saw them take the lead.

n

Brewerkz went down the other end right from the kick off and Yazid was unlucky not to connect with an open chance from just 2 yards and the ball eventually ended up in the keepers’ arms seconds before the half time whistle.

n

Second half was a lot better for Brewerkz as we had more possession and kept the ball well. However we failed to make much of an impact on the very well organised Hotspurs defence. Hotspurs then caught a lucky break when the ball was swung into the box from the right. Their striker attacked it but missed the ball, Nicolas in goal was not sure if he was coming or going and the ball eluded them both, bounced off the head of a frog hidden in the mud and went straight into the net.. Ribbit!

Eventually we did get our goal, scrambled in off a corner. 2-1 with about 5 minutes to play and it was a tense finish. In the last minute Chris had a shot on goal parried by the Hotspurs keeper, the ball fell to Kenny and with the keeper on the ground and just 5 yards out we thought we were heading into extra time when the ball hit the net, but alas it was just the side netting.

n

So in the end, it was 2-1 Hotspurs. On the day, the better team won and deservedly they progress to the finals.

n

Although we lost, overall it was a good game to be involved in, with lots of attacking play, a whole host of goal scoring chances, lots of hard tackling and more importantly because it was played in a good spirit. Credit has to go to the referee who was also a key factor in keeping the game flowing and allowing the players to express themselves and enjoy their football.
