On what was possibly the hottest afternoon possible and the giant PSA pitch against the Casuals the last thing you need is half the squad unavailable! With just the 2 subs (1 used in first 10 mins) this was always going to be a tough ask to last the pace.
nThe first half was competitive, an early goal though putting the Hibs on the back foot from the off, could have done better defensively but it was a quality turn and finish. The rest of the half ebbed and flowed with the Hibs putting together some nice passing and competing, albeit with few opportunities in the final 1/3rd of note. Casuals made chances but weren’t converting them and if the Hibs had held out til halftime things may have been different, as it happens just before the break the Casuals got a second.
nHalf time and as the lads loaded up on fluids the talk was about keeping the ball and working on our passing through the midfield to the attack. The hope was to nick a goal and get back in the game. All the best laid plans were soon dashed as Casuals again scored within 2 mins of the restart and from then on dominated. They had too many chances and could have scored a lot more with some wayward shooting and good shot stopping from Burkey as usual keeping the score line down.
nThe lads ran as much as they could but it was difficult to change anything with no bench to call upon. As the Casuals brought on fresh legs they out paced us across the pitch and showed us how to move the ball and make the most of the space on the gigantic PSA.
nSo another tough lesson learnt for the Hibs, let’s hope we can get a full squad down for the SCC game this coming Saturday. Easy day at the office for the referees but that said they had a faultless game so thanks.
nMan of the Match to Duncan for providing the only glimpses we had of getting on the score sheet.
nSpecial mention to Naka who came down to support and almost got a game even with the crutches and another 5 mths of recovery needed.
