Important victory but still a long way to go!
It could be said that it was unusual circumstances for both teams ahead of this game with neither of them in the top 4, however what was consistent with previous fixtures between these teams was the warmth of the afternoon sun and two squads fired up to commence battle at Singapore Poly.

In so many Cosmo match reports there is mention of diminished squads through work and injury and in many cases this is offered as an excuse for poor results… for SCC we see this always as a chance to show the rest of the league our strength in depth and quality on the bench.

A restructure of the midfield and defense made way for new starter Matt Sutton on the left and Tommy Smith forced out to the right… a knowledgeable and tactically move especially since the big poly pitch would give SCC the chance to attack a very static Casuals flat 4-4-2 formation.

Bowden managed to escape from defense for once into midfield and with Mehdi and Kim Leng making up the 5 combined with a solid looking defensive three of Wells, Goerojo and Adrian… SCC we finely tuned to take this game to Casuals.

And this is exactly what they did… the first half was quick and energetic with both teams working hard all over the pitch. SCC moved the ball around tightly in midfield and calmly in defense, the possession and movement of the ball from both teams was a pleasure to watch yet SCC’s dominating midfield 5 made a final break thru for JP McCarvel when the Casuals goal keeper could only parry a Bowden strike. The goal settled SCC and the tempo of SCC increased a notch further and went into the half time break feeling comfortably ahead and feeling no real threat from the Casual forwards.

Second half was much of the same with Kim Leng and Hutcheon rounding up the scoring… a pretty much one sided affair for both half’s. SCC strong all over, energetic, skillful and tactically in charge.

Players to mention for SCC, Mehdi and Bowden for tireless legs, Tommy and Sutton for excellent flank work, forwards as clinical and strong as ever, Kim for a cheeky goal but specially mention to defensive duties from Wells, Goerojo and especially Adrian who made no mistakes and made last years top goal scorer work extra hard to manage only one threatening strike on goal.

What should be noted and acknowledged, giving credit where credit is due, is SCC management and replacement players took charge of their responsibilities and gave a football lesson to last years runners up in a style showing commitment, passion and sportsmanship.

Referee was excellent, SCC and Casuals conducting themselves in the correct manner… a great game to watch and I’m sure to play in.

MOM for SCC goes to Adam Bowden for dropping into midfield against one of the leagues finest midfield duos, Butler and Abell and bringing SCC out on top.
