The game began and the after some early promise the pattern of play was dissapointingly familiar - the Casuals slow in possession and the opposition sitting back and letting the Casuals keep the ball in defensive areas. Stalemate, until the Casuals gave away yet another cheap goal, a defensive slip up ended up in a needless pass straight to a German forward who chipped into an open goal. 5 mins later and a silly foul led to a free kick and the German forward beat Marc on his near post for 2-0.. Urgency was required but the Casuals showed little of it - prodding around in non threatening areas and not stretching the Germans enough. The Germans by contrast, immediately put the ball into the channels when they had it and caused the Casuals defence problems.
nSecond half and the Casuals improved their game a little - Jamie was introduced and lifted proceedings and managed to get on the end of a cross to make it 2-1.. This should have marked a come back but the Casuals again were not tight to the German forward who was allowed to run and cross for his partner to finish. Casuals then had 2 strong penalty shouts turned down before one at the other end was given and the Germans were well clear. Mooney got on the end of a cross to make it 4-2 and despite some pressure, the Germans held out to win.
nA very poor performance from the Reds. The Casuals are a team who's recent success has been built on 'no nonsense defending' and playing all their football in the opponent's half. 10 goals conceded in the last 3 league games tells something about the need to address recent trends and get back to basics. Well done to the Germans, who exectuted their game plan well and who's centre forward had a very good day.
