Wet Wet Wet

Not the way the Hibs wanted to go into the Xmas break, but the scoreline doesn’t reflect the game overall with the Hibs still in the game until the last 15mins when reduced to 10 men and more than matching Brewerks across the park.

On a soggy PSA the Hibs got off to a storming start with Glenn racing onto a through ball into the channel before the Brewerks defender brought him down inside the box with just 30 seconds on the clock.  The German penalty machine that is Bastian drilled the penalty into the top corner and the Hibs for once were the earlier scorers in a game!  The pitch was difficult to play on and both teams struggled to put together any decent spells of possession.  The ref was picking up on even the smallest infringements which may have been a little disruptive to the game but probably necessary in such conditions to ensure the tackles didn’t get out of hand.

Brewerks struck back from a corner, which once more wasn’t attacked by a Hib player, before Chris on the line managed to get a knee on it only to divert it into the roof of the net.  Hibs kept going though and before halftime they managed to put some nice passing together down the left, Gary timed his run into the box well, took the ball in his stride from a great pass from Glenn and managed to hold off the defender and strike the ball home.

Halftime and the mood was positive in the Hibs camp.  Second half and Brewerks came out strong.  They managed to get on level terms very quickly and this knocked the Hibs a little.  This was closely followed by us losing the lead as the shape of the team changed with a number of substitutions as we rotated the squad.  The Hibs picked their heads up and battled on but had to push forward more to look for the equalizer.  Clarkey had a great chance as he worked his way through one on one but unfortunately the keep saved at the near post.

Late on Chris received a second yellow, following a harsh first yellow, as he lost his temper in the fray of the game.  This really put the Hibs on the back foot and Brewerks took advantage to score a couple of late goals and kill the game off.

n

Xmas break to regroup and hopefully get some games in on the bounce without forced breaks to disrupt the flow.

n

Mom goes to Glenn for the second week on the bounce – another performance covering the whole pitch and was involved in both goals.

Looking forward to meeting Brewerks in the next round of the cup.

Good job overall by the referees.
