Hib Hib Hooray

Three games; three wins; four goals scored in each match; no clean sheets. Is there a pattern emerging.

While the 4-1 scoreline against Hibs on Saturday may slightly flatter Hotspurs, the game should have been over by half time. Spurs created innumerable clear cut chances in the first 30 minutes of the game, and the profligacy in front of goal is becoming a concern. Having said that, the Hibs keeper was in top form, and made several excellent saves, before the Hibs themselves took the lead with an effective cross field move that stretched the Spurs' defence to breaking point.

Dalis equalised for us a mere 5 minutes later, picking up the pieces with a delightful lob after a move set up by Abbas and yet another save from the Hibs custodian. This signalled the start of a period of constant Hibs pressure and domination that in the end, we did well to withstand.

7 minutes from the break, Hotspurs were awarded a penalty after an imprudent lunge in the box on Esad, and Mike despatched the spot kick to give us the lead. Hibs must have been shaking their heads at the interval, wondering how they didn't go into the dressing room ahead, never mind a goal down.

The Hotspurs upped the pressure, upped the ante, and upped their game in the second half scoring two unanswered goals – the first, a collector's item from Aran, tucking home in the box after a 'Dalis special' free-kick had broken to him, and Dalis himself completed the scoring 10 minutes from time.

It's rare that a Hotspurs side outlasts the opposition, particularly on a scorching hot day on a massive pitch, but that was the tale of the second half, and all 15 players deserve huge credit. We stuck to the task; played intelligent football and used the bench to great effect, and while the scoreline appears to suggest that the game was somewhat one-sided, this was far from the case.

Many thanks to the Hibs for a competitive game played in an excellent spirit and some amusing banter on the sidelines (as well as in the bar later that evening). We will probably be more complimentary about the referee than you will, but he was very restrained, allowed the game to flow whenever possible, and didn't reach into his pocket once in 90 minutes.
