The game got underway with both teams having many attacking chances. Swiss had 1 chance hit the bar and another good opportunity squandered with bad finishing. Although Brewerkz did have more posession the Swiss were always a threat. Brewerks defence were under pressure a lot from the pacy wingers and also a quick and mobile striker. Swiss were also denied a clear penalty by the ref but overall our defence rode the storm well and eventually we got our goal to go into the break 1-0 up.
The second half could not have started in a better way for us. Kelly pouncing on the lose ball in the box and turning 2 defenders before smashing the ball in.
Instead of their heads going down, the Swiss actually picked up their game. For the next 20 minutes we were under constant pressure as they started playing short passes and were moving well. It did seem that they were a different team playing the pass and move game as opposed to the long ball into the quick striker or winger.
Yet again though they were let down by poor finishing and Brewerkz came through and Ganesh scored a great individual effort from 20 yards out.
Credit to the Swiss who never gave up. There were some tough battles on the field some verbal intimidation here and there but everything taken in the right spirit of the game. Although they have lost the last few games, I believe that the Swiss will bounce back if they continue to play the short pass and move game which gave us problems at the back.
A mention also has to go to the Brewerkz defenders and especially Kevin who was playing out of position and also still having the flu but did a good job marshalling the defence and helping us keep a clean sheet for us for only the third time this season. Nick was outstanding in goal with a few last gasp saves that kept us top of this clash. Julien always had his man under wraps and Matt and Jon dealt with the runners pretty well.
