Good fight but not enough against current Champions
For any neutral supporters this was a great game to watch. Both teams played good football throughout the 90min and plenty of chances on both ends. But having said all that the game was virtually over by the interval.
We started with a more defensive 4-5-1 formation and for most parts looked like we were able to contain the SCC. However, our downfall would be switching from offence to defence – midfielders not following their players and players being beaten in 1-on-1 situations. SCC always looked dangerous on the break or when winning the ball early in midfield. However, when we managed to slow the game down we looked in control. In terms of possession and number of chances the first half was fairly evenly balanced. We made some good moves through midfield and had 2 great opportunities to score plus another 3-5 good half chances but to no avail. Unfortunately SCC’s strikers and midfield players were in good finishing form. SCC had 5 good chances in the first half which ended in 4 goals to SCC – unfortunately this was our downfall.
Down 4-0 at half time and having put in a decent performance was a tough wake-up call. But we felt we were still in the game. We had created good chances and looked dangerous going forward, so there were definitely goals in it for us. We started bright and created a good chance down the wing but SCC hit back on the counter. To be fair to Latini we never gave up, our midfield must have covered marathon distance on the pitch - excellent work. In the end we our deserved rewards - 3 good goals (and it could have been more) made the scoreline more respectable and a better reflection of the game. 1st was a strong header from Rich the Bull, great cross from Adrien, second a nice move finished off by Olive Michel and the 3rd again from Michel to ensure the scoreline looked a little better.
Overall a good performance, good football, everyone fighting, running and working but clinical finishing by SCC was too much for us on the day. Nonetheless I think signs were there that we can give them a run for their money and we will be looking forward to meeting them in the return leg. It looks like SCC will be the team to beat for anyone interested in making a title challenge this season.
Man of the match is a tough call, several good performances, especially from Olive and Rich coming off the bench, Yann, Benji, Adrien and Fafa but my MOM has to go to Etienne for a great performance at the back.
Referee – decent performance but his linesman were rarely in line with the last man.
