The Mannschaft started with Zafer Blauhelm in goal and the legendary Back-4 Toni Maric, Herminator Bergmann, Denis Eisenfuss and Sven-Jens-Maradonna. The midfield was even more legendary with Phil Latio, Thomas Burner, Mihi Kovac and Andre Keulmann. Up front the coach came up with a surprise, putting the 19 year old Erfurter Eigengewaechs Thomas Heun aside Veteran Bomber Michael Sparwasser.
The game started with both sides struggling a bit to get into the flow on a Dunearn pitch, which could have afforded some grass cutting. It was the German’s after only 10 minutes who went up with 1-0, when Tommy Heun clued in a beautiful “Schlenzer”! After that the Germans and here specifically the Erfurter Youngstar had several chances to make it 2-0, but it was not to be and so Gaulois was pushing the Germans into their own half. Still Deutschland was dangerous with counter attacks and should have been clearer in the lead already but it was only until Funkturm Maric neatly headed in a corner, that the German Schlachtenbummler had something to cheer. So it was 2-0 to the Germans at half time and the game far from over.
After the change the German tanks kept pushing for the 3-0 as the game-decider, but the Hand-Of-God-Svenny from the Waterkant had some other thoughts. He clearly told all his team mates, that he would be going to handle this ball by screaming Leo Leo Leo and that’s what he did – he hand-led the ball in our own penalty area, which we explained him after the game is not allowed. With this it was penalty to Gaulois which was converted coolly. The game was 2-1 and all open again. The Germans Thanked Svenny for creating a bit of excitement and kept pushing to make it 3-1. It was only until the 75th minute, when again Junior Heun made the 3-1 with a nicely converted roller-freekick. By that time it felt safe to bring on Maaadse Bertl, as he had only 10 more minutes to kick the ball to his own hands or defend German shoots in the Gaulois penalty box, which he had done so well in Bangkok. But – weit gefehlt - his first ball contact was a shot which “slightly” deflected made its way into the goal. So it was 4-1 and the game over. The Germans went on to celebrate their victory until Sunday evening and most of the team is sick today. Man of the match goes to Ronny-Tommy Heun, who scored twice which happened last time, when there was still a wall between East- and West Germany.
