matchreport - 13-Oct-07 - brewerkz v. latini
Team Brewerkz

Brewerkz needed this win make no doubt about it. With only one win in 6 outings the season could not have started worse for Brewerkz.

Against a strong Latini side with some familiar faces on the bench the game started with Brewerkz on the upper hand and with young Duncan on the left showing finally what we all know he can do, putting in some great touches and the cross for Brewerkz first goal off the head of Chris Carroll after some great play from the Brewerkz midfield.

We had most if not all of the first half but Latini equalised with a simple goal that was let in by our stand in keeper (thanks Lawrence) who let in a soft header but without gloves and any sort of preparation he more than made up for that in the 2nd half with a fine 2nd half display.

We played some great football on the plastic SSS pitch and I assume the referee could not keep up with the end to end play with one decision that was a stone wall penalty for Brewerkz god knows how he did not give it but as luck would have it he made amends in the 2nd half with an equally strange decision by the linesman to award a 'dive' to Latini forward when everyone else thought it a penalty. So decisions equaled as far as strange ones go.

2nd half started with the old Brewerkz faces Brent and Jun starting in defense and left mid for Latini and with Luke smashing a shot against the and for Gaeten to miss the chance of the season to put Latini in front putting the ball over the bar when it looked much easier to score, so a let off for Brewerkz which we duly took and attacked and scored on our next sortie in the Latini half, some great interchange play by midfield and Carroll on the end to finish well.

For the remainder of the game, Brewerkz worked hard, against a determined Latini team, who probably thought based on current form that Brewerkz would be an easy game this time round. Not so today and Brewerkz held on comfortably in the end to secure all 3 points. The game was competitive but it never really got out of hand even the Latini sending off was hand bags at 6 paces and helped Brewerkz. All in all an enjoyable Saturday afternoon and some great performances by Brewerkz notably from Garath whom I had to talk out of retiring the week before on his 40th birthday and young Duncan who had a cracking game on the left. Everyone else played their part in this win.

Thanks to Latini for a good game.
