Not pretty, but 3 points
After a lot of rain throughout the week SJI was quite muddy, but thankfully both teams tried to make the best out of the difficult conditions and it turned out to be an easy game for the officials.
The Dutch looked like they had fielded their U 17 - so many new and young faces. Great to see so many youngsters in the league! And particularly in the first half they created their chances but they lacked the composure in front of goal. The Swiss took the lead when a crisp cross from the left was deflected into the net by a Dutch defender. However, the Swiss forward was right there and would have scored anyway (or at least that's what he should have done).
On 20 minutes the Swiss combined well and Michel Keiser looked like doubling the lead but his shot was blocked. On the counterattack the Dutch midfielder let fly from 25 metres and to everybody's surprise the ball found the top hand corner. 1:1. But the Swiss pressure became stronger and soon afterwards the lead was restored. A quick passing move and the final ball from Norman Buerzle for Michel Keiser to score. Heinz Steinegger then scored after one of his trademark runs to make it 3:1 at the break. The score could have been 6:3....
The message at the break was clear: we need another goal to deny a Dutch comeback. With Ard meanwhile on the pitch the Dutch looked more composed going forward. But it was the Swiss again who scored, when Christian Schulthess collected a rebound to probably put the game beyond the Dutch at this stage. Nikos then scored a very cool goal to make it 5:1. The Dutch combined well and Ard finished clinically to reduce the deficit. The last word went again to the Swiss and Christian Schulthess (our leading goalscorer by now) completed the scoring. 6:2 Swiss.
A deserved 3 points to the Swiss on a day when it was very difficult to play football - the pitch was just not allowing a normal passing game.
Hollandse will get their points if their youngsters find their scoring boots. They have pace and stamina, but lack the killer finish.
