After several cancellations earlier, the long-anticipated Plate semis between the Hollandse FC and Rangers finally took place. It was a hot and humid day and the pitch was muddy; not ideal foir a game of soccer, though we had seen worse circumstances this season.
nnFirst half saw an initially dominant Rangers, getting the better of chances, with Takbir making some great saves early on in the match. As the match progressed the role of the Dutch grew, however without being able to create much chances. The best one was for Martijn, who saw his rocket being chipped over the bar by the strong performing goalie of the Rangers. Adversity struck right before half-time, when a scrimmage resulted in the 0-1 lead for the Rangers.
nnFive minutes down the line in the second half, the second goal of Rangers popped up on the scoreboard after converting a penalty. With that goal, the spirit of the Dutch was broken and a few more goals from the Rangers would follow.
nnAll in all not a great game for the Dutch, although especially the first half saw some strong performances. Takbir was great in the goal, Gavin showed his skills on midfield and Frits did a good job as a substitute in the forward line. Rene played very well as wing-back on the right and has been elected man-of-the-match.
nnAll the best to Rangers in their final.
